Cuddles The Famous Chicken, Ripley's Believe It Or Not, Chicken Dance, Song by Keith John Paul Horcasitas

Visiting a family friend and sharing great memories, including a famous New Orleans Ripley's Believe It Or Not Chicken, "Cuddles," the 1984 New Orleans World's Fair German Beer Garden Chicken Dance and singing a fun ole Irish Chicken Song.

This year on Martin Luther King, Jr. observed day, Maria and I had fun going to New Orleans to visit with Mary Brobston Edwards, a 92 y/y (years young) widow who resides at Mater Dolorosa Independent Living.
Mary was a good friend of my mother and other Kleinpeters who ran the old Kleinpeter Grocery Store on the corner of S. Jefferson Davis and Bienville in Mid-City N'Awlins.
We had a splendid visit with many stories, including about her childhood pet "Cuddles The Chicken," whom was cited in a "Ripley's Believe It Or Not" book for laying an egg every day for 21+ years.
Mary told us that once when she had also been given a duck with baby ducklings, the mother duck unfortunately died not long later, at which time Cuddles adopted them; she noted it was so fun watching them talk to each other with "cluck, cluck, clucks and quack, quack, quacks galore!
Cuddles was even known to go into small ponds with the little chicks!
We also reminisced a lot about the fun German "Chicken Dance Song," which I learned about in 1984 during the World's Fair that was held in New Orleans and made famous at the site's German Beer Garden.
My parents, me, other family and Mary used to love going to the Beer Garden and Chicken Dancing!
During the visit, I also had fun playing guitar and singing to Mary an old Irish "Chicken Song", which she thoroughly enjoyed:

because that chicken, no eggs would she lay
Than came that rooster, into our yard,

I had forgotten all about the chicken dance. Thanks for reminding me. And that silly song certainly has a ring of truth about it. Finally, Cuddles. That was quite a matronly chicken. She did her duty for all those years. I have read recently about the long lives of birds. There probably are other chickens with even longer records that no one kept track of.
