My name is Henry, and I am 8 years old. I was born in Korea, and I was born blind.
I was given up by my mom because she couldn't care for me. I was "too much of a burden", she had told the orphanage people when she dropped me off there; only I don't remember all that; I was just a baby when this happened.
My full name is Henry Long Ju Park. That is my Korean name; but here in America, my name is Henry Long Ju Michael Pearson. I am kinda' tall for my age, but not too terribly so; and I have short black hair and brown eyes that tilt upwards. I have yellowish skin, and my hair is stick-straight. I am not a bad-looking boy, my family tells me; but to be honest, I don't really know *WHAT* I look like: for one thing, I am blind, and I have never seen myself in a mirror; so HOW can I tell others what I look like? I just tell them I am a boy with short hair, and that I am blind.
I like to do many things. I like to listen to music, and I like to sing. I also like to play baseball with the kids at my school, and I like to listen to the wind blowing in the trees or feel the sun on my face. I love to be outside; I am a nature boy! :)
I want to be a writer when I grow up. That's another thing. I love to write, and I love to type things on my Braille typewriter. I also love to read Braille books (you know those books that have the raised dots on the pages? That's how I read. Each dot represents a word, symbol, or number, and depending on how the dots are placed, I can read by feeling the dots with my fingers. I can tell what the dots say just by feel. I am one of the best readers in my school, and I am really proud of that! :) )
Well, this is about it for now. I don't have much else to say excepting I have brothers and sisters, and that I live in Fort Worth, Texas. I came to Texas when I was about four, and I love it!
