Nature calls!
Alvin—without Theodore and Simon.

Walking along the second-floor corridor to my end apartment after a morning stroll around the complex, I espied a small, brownish lump on the carpet. As I drew nearer, the “lump” sprang to life, scampering up the third flight of stairs in a second. My fleeting glimpse was enough to identify the escape artist as a baby chipmunk—kit.

It was news to me, that our uninvited guest had the run of the place all week! If I knew this, I may not have slept a wink, worried the little fella could intrude under the door space.

Well, what comes around goes around! And, it did, during my evening walk.

Rounding the bend aligned with the front lobby, I see one of the residents holding a door wide open. Seizing an opportunity, the chipmunk charged out of the lobby and scurried up the hill into the woods.

Nature calls!

The few of us who witnessed this speedy egress were overjoyed to see the chipmunk bolt to its stomping ground. During these turbulent times overshadowed by a pandemic and social unrest, we shared an untainted jubilant moment.

If there is a kindred Theodore or Simon, I hope the chipmunk finds them.

Sure glad it got away. That chipmunk would've starved trying to find seeds to eat growing from that carpet. Made me recall the screech owl that kept flying back into my house fireplace in a raging blizzard, trying to get out of the wind and cold. Had to put it out gently, twice, sitting on the end of my broom.

About two months ago there was a very pregnant possum in the backyard when I did my exercise about 10 pm every night. Lately, we've been seeing a miniature possum looking for worms and other goodies in the garden. I'm pretty sure I know where that one came from. The cycle of life goes on. And possums will outlast the dinosaurs again.

So glad there was a jubilant moment to enjoy:) We've come across mice nests in unexpected places and all sorts of critters where I Ieast expect to see them. Nature loves to surprise.
Have a blessed weekend.

Sometimes small trapped creatures do not find such kind humans opening the door for them to escape back into the woods to renew the life of a chipmunk.... Luck little guy.
