WEEK 2 / STEP 2:

Put Aside All Worry & Fear

As the following scripture passage says, we need to put aside all fear, anxiety and worry. Only then will we be able to refocus and see things more clearly in a non-emotional way. Then we are free to pray fervently and with confidence for whatever we need, knowing that God hears and answers our prayers.

“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts, and your minds, in Christ Jesus.”

-Philippians 4:6-7

ALWAYS A REASON TO HOPE

Negative thoughts and words can drag you down, hurt your relationships, making you negative and pessimistic, when all you really need is to be at peace with life on its terms. It takes fearless faith to move forward, trusting that “ALL things work for good for those who love God.” [Romans 8:28] Though this may seem like an oversimplification, it really is that simple. For when you understand that faith and fear cannot possibly coexist, you are able to choose one or the other: faith or fear. This is a choice we all have to make on a daily basis. Worry and fear only serve to complicate matters, thereby fueling negativity, which is anything but helpful when in crisis.

There is ALWAYS a reason to hope and thank God for your many blessings. Gratitude to God begets great inner peace—even joy. Perhaps it’s a good time to start praying, asking Jesus, ‘The Great Healer,’ for help, and thanking Him for your many blessings with your situation…What do you have to lose?

What Gives You Peace?

Christians who choose faith over fear trust that Jesus is in charge of whatever they are facing or dealing with. How could anyone possibly walk in fear while trusting, and truly believing that God is at the helm? One of the most challenging and insidious things about fear is that it can take root— even take up residence—in one’s heart and mind, propelling you into a worried, anxious, depressed state of being overwhelmed. You may not even be aware of the negativity you hold in your own heart and mind.

We need to fight fear like the enemy it is, as it is clearly not from, or of, God. Fear is contagious, but so is trust in God. Fear prevents us from seeing the world from a positive perspective—depriving us from having hope and trust in God’s Only Son, Jesus Christ. Fear is the wind beneath the wings of depression, anxiety, and despair— something to be avoided at all costs.

Though sometimes fear and worry creep in like unwelcome visitors, it is important to nip them in the bud. By turning to your greatest resource, Jesus, you can swiftly restore your well-being and walk in a state of calm and peace, and subsequently, joy.

“For God did not give us a spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and of a calm

and well-balanced mind…”

-2 Timothy 1:7
