Miracles Abound!

About a week ago, I had a really tough day. It was the kind of day when you wonder if God is really listening to your prayers. The kind of day when you are way too distracted to pray, and try to “Go it alone” rather than asking for God’s help. During such times it is easy to doubt God…and become a bit fearful, even hope-challenged.
 
“Always be ready to give an explanation to anyone who asks you for a reason for your hope…”
1 Peter 3:15
 
Last week I was [impatiently] waiting for the high-dose IV treatments I get to treat myasthenia gravis to begin working. Though I had not felt well for about 6 weeks, I was very sick. I had already prayed fervently and often, and had just waited seven days post-treatment for improved speech, and for my health to be restored. But nothing happened…Actually, I was beginning to wonder if the steroid treatments had stopped working. When the treatments work, they generally work well and quickly, restoring breathing, speech and mobility in a matter of less than a week. However, this time my healing was delayed. My speech was even [and still] garbled to the point that I couldn’t even understand my own speech. I was weary of being sick, and growing very worried by the day…

Sometimes we all get so overwhelmed by the realities of life that it is hard to pray—and that is exactly what happened. Recognizing this was happening, I contacted my friend Chris and asked for extra prayer. One of the great blessings of having praying friends. Being very faith-filled, she went the next morning to our pastor on my behalf, Pastor Pete Literal, to ask for prayer for me at about 9:00am. By 9:30am, a half-hour later, my speech cleared, and became much improved, steadily improving ongoing through that day. Coincidence? I think not! I doubt that whole-heartedly, as I do not believe in coincidences. Prayer changes things.

God can and will do anything on our behalf—but we simply need to and ask Him for whatever we need, in the name of Jesus—the name above all names. As my speech returned that day, I felt badly about doubting God, and began to think of all the times He has helped me in the past—through blessings and “miracles.” Just for clarity, I consider a miracle to be anything good that happens that cannot be explained through human logic.
 
The Miracle List
For some time now, I have thought about writing down all the miracles that God has provided for me in my lifetime. I’ve had the sense there have been many of these such events, but have never really taken the time before to write them down. I learned a lot from that exercise, as I discovered some 80+ miracles listed [those that I could remember; I’m sure there are plenty I could not remember]. Needless to say, I was flooded with gratitude to God. My brief period of not being able to trust God and pray was over, and it was replaced with a grateful heart. God’s Love, blessings and miracles are never, ever earned—as they are freely given to us. Though belief and faith are both very important, we need to remember that God does what He wants, when He wants, for whomever He wants…I am humbled to think that I had not given God collective credit for all that He’s done for me throughout my life. But as sure as it’s spring, this is a tremendous opportunity for a new beginning.
 
Ask & You Shall Receive
God always hears and welcomes our prayers, and blesses us with all that is good and right and true . I’m sure He revels in our gratitude, a powerful witness to others. Knowing the reason for your hope begets gratitude, and stokes the flames of greater hope and trust in Him.
 
“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find;
knock and the door will be opened to you.”

Could it be that today is your day to grow in gratitude for all your blessings as you write out your very own “Miracle list?” I was truly surprised by all He has done for me in my life—I’m confident that you will be too!
