When It All Comes Crashing Down

It was morning workouts and practice drills for the Baltimore Clippers. Manager Edmond Hawthorne was observing all of his coaches conducting the players workouts.

Rick Randolph, after running sprints in the outfield, thern spending awhile fielding grounders at 2nd base, along with shortstop Alex Ayers, flipping the baseballs to one another, practicing their double play drills.

It was then time for batting practice, then it was Ricks turn to take some swings.

Afterward, when Rick was headed for the dugout, his manager, Edmond Hawthorne stopped him to chat about something. Rick said to his manager “what’s up”. Edmond Hawthorne had a serious expression on his face and said to Rick, “I am not sure how to handle this situation, so I want your opinion”, “what about” Rick quiztivly answered.

Edmond Hawthorne informed Rick that a number of reporters have been inquiring if he was going to issue a statement on the verdict in the Alicia Reynolds trial and Edmond wanted to know if Rick wanted to be bothered with it or just let it go and not say anything publicly about it in a news conference question and answer session.

Rock’s response to Edmond was, “the verdict is common knowledge to just about anyone and even though I am sure the reporters would really like to hear my opinion on the verdict, I just want to put it all behind me, even though some want to know my thoughts, but, I don’t want to be a part of a news conference or question and answer session. So let it just drop, I don’t want it turning into a media circus and add fuel to the fire. I know there are several who would try just that, especially one or two in particular”. And with that Rick walked into the dugout and then headed down the runway to the clubhouse to relax for awhile.
