My late Dad's Memories in the Army during WW II Typing For His Leader!

With Veteran's Day tomorrow, I had to share a fun N'Awlins Connection to my late Dad, who had served in the Army in Alaska during WW II.
When dad's Sargent asked his regiment if any of the guys knew how to type, dad said his hand never went up so fast, as he had previously gotten office training from Soule Business College in New Orleans before being drafted for the war.
The others in Dad's Army Platoon were so jealous since Daddy got to sleep in a cabin compared to their staying colder in tents - as you know, it gets a little colder in Alaska than in New Orleans!
As a kid, I fondly heard many neat stories from dad about his close relationship with the Sargent, and we always looked forward to his Christmas cards for many years.
Typing was considered women's work in those days. I took typing in my sophomore year of high school and did badly, 35 words a minute. But never regretted it. I don't know if my uncle typed or not, but he joined the Army Air Corps in 1941 and served 20 years. Never left the United States during WWII. Most of the time he was in school or training others. He died two years ago, one month short of 102. The only member of my family without the aftereffects of combat.
You didn't say how long your father lived. I believe that he was a big influence on who you are. My father failed the physical in Milwaukee in 1941 because of myopia, astigmatism and ruptured eardrums (boxing and infections). Strange, but I don't believe I would've been born in 1942 had he been inducted.
