Years earlier on the farm Old excerpts which have recently been discovered tell us that Elias began his earthly life as a rather timid and sheltered young man, a loner of sorts friends would say. Subsequently when someone queried about his folks; he responded in a worrisome manner, claiming that he couldn’t recall his parents’ names or the grimace on their faces? Classmates and peers who knew him best, esteemed him to be a loyal and devoted friend. Certainly, he was a stalwart to the wayward and downtrodden youth of his day. His spirit always responded to an oncoming crisis by searching-out those who were thrust into harm’s way by no fault of their own. That’s when Elias decided to pick-up the guardian mantel for everyone in his graduating class. Now there were some people, mostly adults, who often would throw shade and criticize, shouting, “Hey entity, save us, too!” Just Jealous, I think. Elias exceled at carpentry as a teenager, becoming a savant in his trade. He also loved sports and writing soon became second nature. I would say, if Elias had a fault or two, maybe ego and possibly a bit of a temper, but hey, no one is perfect? unless… Elias knew in his heart, the times, they were-a-chang’n. Most often he knew beforehand of certain tragedy’s headed his young friend’s way. But a sad truth sprouted out of the vine of innocence choking his spirit… he learned a hard lesson; that he couldn’t protect them!!! All he could do was befriend them as they crossed over the stream of life... to perpetuity. So, his calling card, so to speak, was to clasp onto their hands as their life’s blood spilled, crying out from the ground… “Intercede for us dear Elias, receive our spirits and return them to our eternal home-away from home.” Not one of his friends would ever die alone. Elias earnestly strived to be all things to all people in the event he could win their trust. Years latter this facet would procure a valued character trait in him which the world had not seen in centuries. Young Elias has one more chasm to cross before he is capable to stand in the gap for other people and fulfill his lifelong calling, of caretaker.
