Tells the story of a very special little boy who has an extreme form of dwarfism.
Brandy's my name, and I am the (single)mother of a special little boy who is the light and angel of my life.
My son is three years old, and his name is Jeremy Blaize. He is all boy: that is, he loves to run around and make noise (and the more noise, the better, it seems!), play with his toy cars and trucks, and color. He also loves to watch "Berenstein Bears", "Caillou", and "Sesame Street" on the public tv station, and he also loves to go to pre-school each Monday through Friday.
But if you were to see my son, you would immediately see that he is a special child. He is markedly smaller than most kids his age; and he weighs just 10 pounds. He is incredibly tiny; he has a rare form of dwarfism known as primordial dwarfism. He isn't much bigger than a newborn baby, and he wears newborn sized (or even doll sized) clothes; and every day tasks are a major struggle for him. He also has a tracheostomy and requires daily suctioning treatments (which are rather painful for him), and he is on medication to keep his airway clear. But despite his challenges, he acts like a typical toddler.
Jeremy was adopted from Korea when he was 1, and he's our first child. (We will be adding a little girl to the family in a few months, from Russia, and already Jeremy is asking, "When Tatie get here?" Tatiana is the name of the little girl we are going to adopt, and she is 2, just a year younger than her brother-to-be. But right now it is just Jeremy and myself.)
Jeremy is a very smart little boy; and the teachers at his pre-school are discovering that in a very big way. He already knows his "afabit" and his colors, and he knows the different animals and the sounds they make. He also is trying to write his name, and he just adores his teachers and classmates at pre-school! What he lacks in size he sure makes up for it in sheer will and personality; and I am so blessed to have Jeremy in my life! He may be a child who has special needs, but he has taught me compassion and to overlook his problems and see him as a child first, and that his disabilities are only part of what makes him the way he is! He truly is a little Miracle, and I am so glad that God chose me to be his mommy!
