With so many insomniacs who’ve not found the secret to sleep, keep looking for your option

Go-To Dependable Pill

While you wrestle with indigestion

Too many carbs the books say

Be they cat or dog or both

They sit at your feet

Peering faithfully at your darkening expression

As you try to watch TV

While your mate

Scolds you with

I told you so

Later

Rather

Than sooner

TV speaks of troubles

Greater than your own

Making your digestion recede

While your mind plays with

Bills

Marriage

Children

Job

Et al

After which as the habitual sounds

Of car horns

Sirens

Angry street voices

Drawing ire from your cat and dog

Grow silent

Leaving the peaceful sound of

Trees full of leaves rustling

Busy with their own worries

As fall chill alerts their fight or flight instinct

All while…

Your night light

Not dim enough

To keep your mind shadows

At bay

Your snoring

Not loud enough

To scare off the nightly visit

Of undesirable dreams

You turn on the bed lamp

Grab your iPad

And scan

Knowing trouble galore

Is overwhelming on the internet

Your “go-to” feel-better-than-them” dependable slumber pill

How true. You captured so many of the ills that affect our sleep. Things that a sleep test by professionals cannot uncover.

For me, it was spasms just after I went to bed. Stretching exercises helped, but until we addressed my ingrown toenails, the spasms continued unabated. With the spasms gone, I decided to lose weight by alternately eating less every other day. That helped immensely, too.

But I've developed a habit of listening to and watching music from old favorite songs on a YouTube AI generated playlist initiated by my thinking of something to listen to like, Mr. Bojangles. And then, the Sammy Davis Jr. belts out the last… "Dance…" A new video appears and the playlist continues until midnight when the iPad automatically times out, I take my baclofen for spasms at midnight and fall asleep like never before. Only waking up to urinate and require being turned to avoid aches and pains and bedsores.
