Children often ask interesting and challenging questions. A prosetry interlude for such matters.

Sunset’s Palette Changing

“But, Daddy, why?” she begged.

Why

Do my white tulips close at night?

Why

Must the burnt-orange wind hassle the green tree?

Why

Seems the night comes clenched in the raven’s talons?

Why

Must the golden mountain turn dark as it touches the black sky?”

A father can only smile…

“It is Nature’s coloring book, my darling.”

I value this reference to the profound questions asked by children…very young ones, before ‘entering the ball field of answers that neuter imagination.’ “Who put the salt in the ocean, mommy?” ~~ djl

Indeed, nature's coloring book contains all original paints as well as a deft hand to employ them. A charming interlude.
