Itsy Bitsy Mystics
“So I go fishing in the dark.
Go ahead.
See if you can do any better.
You have to be patient.
Your thoughts are the sharp hooks.
Your heart the not always fresh bait.
Takes practice.
You know?
You have to aim past all believing
Into the midnight darkness
Until the baited hook is beyond sight.
Let it unravel,
Way out there.
Let that unresolved thought at least get a nibble.
You push the casting into the unthinkable,
Seeing the wave of the saber
Or maybe the unfurling of a white flag
Epiphany on the way.
Get it?”
The fly and the spider move their ceiling seats further away
Staring in disbelief at their tenant’s delusional rant.
“He needs some help, you know?”
“Yeah… I think you might be onto something.”
As a fisherman, 90% of fishing is like casting in the dark. Except when I could see the fish and tempt them with my bait and very clear water, many times I was probably casting to water where there were no fish to see my bait.
