In a global society that for the most part equates wealth with the amount of “stuff” one has, there is a renaissance trying to happen.

 Simple Treasures

Sunlight begins its dance on the dew-drenched leaves,

Relaying sparkle onto the soil beneath,

A bird sings its natural awakening in the world,

A melodious ushering in of the day’s dawn.

A simple sip of morning coffee

Spreads its warmth through a body becoming ready.

From a child’s innocence,

Laughter of purity

Echoes through the air

Reminding us of joy’s simplest form.

A distance away,

The scent of rain on a drought-suffering earth rises,

Sharing Nature’s perfume

As cloud-filled compassion helps bring life to a parched land.

In a city apartment,

Fond words of affection and care

On a handwritten note taped to the mirror

Await discovery as a treasure

By one in need.

Later…

An embrace of sincerity,

Wraps securely around a partner in love,

Sharing the silent promise of comfort and safety.

Even later…

Tiny beacons of hope twinkle in the sky’s stars and moon

Faithfully guiding us through the darkness

Into a nocturnal recharging of our senses.

Such are the moments from life’s simple treasure chest

Where riches are not shown as gold or silver,

But in the simple values that fill our vital spirit

With warmth,

Light,

And hope.

Basic values often struggling to stay alive.

We all could benefit by unloading all of the baggage we carry and into more simple lives. I have done that somewhat in retirement. The simple pleasures you illustrated in your prosetry are the ones that are priceless in value and so rich to behold.

Welcoming something different is also a great treasure, getting us out of the routine and into new adventures without ever leaving where we are.
