At times flying
Wind its companion
Over rough roads
Around fence posts
Power lines
Over drain ditches
Through tunnels
Across railroad tracks
Even occasional hitches
Splayed across radiator grills

Inevitably

A refolding beneath rubber treads
Reshaping
Reforming
Reconstituting itself
Renders vagabond the persistent journey

Finding tomorrow a city
To warm the homeless
Atop subway gratings
Making breath alive and warm again
That day's reinvention

Ever wonder why it is?

So much transforming

Creating new meaning
New worth
New purpose

While most of us
Exist awhile
Die forever

Wonder remains
