The title should read, "The Mountains or the Ocean?" Those are my two favorite places to go on vacation. Which one do we choose?
My wife and I have lived in Florida for most of our adult lives. The beach has always been close by, less than an hour by car. Sandpipers and pelicans are among our favorite birds. I love catching them on camera, and they always provide fantastic natural entertainment. The sounds and smells of the sea and sand are the best therapy, much better than any gym or specialist office. Our next two vacations involve ocean voyages. What could be better? The mountains are lovely, but the mountains do not move. I rest my case. Amen!
In my younger years it was always mountains. But it was very lonely climbing to the top with no one to share it with me.
I've always been attracted to the coast, and have taken a few sea voyages to islands in the Caribbean with their unique offerings. Perhaps my greatest love was taking A100 mile canoe trip through the Canadian wilderness twice, 16 years apart. If anything I would want to live there.
I don't know why people are attracted to the seashore to live. The sound of the waves and the constant screeching of the gulls would drive me crazy. storms and shoreline receding make those dangerous places to live too.
