This is me today. I accidentally dabbed on a nanogram of Oscar de la Renta with just a whisper of moisture on one finger which I then touched to my jugular vein. Well, I did it on purpose actually, but it was from a teensy perfume bottle from Mom’s house and that highly-concentrated liquid gold came to America on a Viking ship 800 years ago. Now I am a walking, eye-watering, skunk-grade of nosebleed stench, just from the faintest whiff my husband had to endure at the breakfast table. And THAT’s AFTER I went upstairs, once I realized I had dotted on essence of hemlock, and tried to wet washcloth it off. Spit on a hanky!!
P.S. — I can’t even stand myself. Time to roll in the tomato juice!
OMD! What a thing to endure. Did that tincture from your mother age badly? Was it beyond its sale date? My wife's mother's Christian Dior black sequin gown had not aged one bit when it graced Jan's equally trim body and it didn't reek of any perfume from that famous Paris Fashion house where it was bought in the 1950s.
I favor perfume like my mother's cooking, primarily cinnamon and vanilla like Emerude and many others. While I'm not allergic to anything that I know of, I find that most extracts from flowers like roses immediately cause me to want to get out of their pheromone power.
Your way with words and images never fails to cause a smile, and many times, a tear. This glimpse of the unusual was rife with reading stops just to savor the preceding words. Wonderful bit of humor and a pinch of melancholy thrown in, giving your readers another ride on your carousel of surprises. I really enjoyed reading this a few times, each time my smile getting broader.
