Louisiana's "concert review", if you will. She and her family went to Billy Bob's Texas, in Fort Worth, Texas, to see Loretta Lynn in concert two nights ago.
I think we have just about recovered from seeing Loretta Lynn in concert two nights ago.
But no matter what, the kids are still talking about it, and they all have grins on their faces. So does my husband.
We got to Billy Bob's Texas about 7, and to pass the time, the kids were busy looking at the souvenirs and were eagerly anticipating the start of the concert. They had their naps; and they were refreshed and raring to go; and they were all looking forward to the concert, especially Ronee'. (She is probably the biggest Loretta Lynn fan when it comes to our children; she knows all her songs by heart, and she has just about all her music.) Ronee' has loved Loretta Lynn since the time she was very young; and she practically grew up listening to her music. And she has seen her in concert numerous times, and has even opened up a few shows for her. Now she is ten years old, and she still loves her very much.
Around 9, we got in line to go to the showroom; and as it was expected, there was a huge crowd waiting to go to the showroom, so they could get to their seats. We were near the front; and when it came time for the person to let the rope down, we all made our way to the Loretta Lynn souvenir stand. Once we had gotten some stuff, we then made our way to the side of the stage, near the backstage area; and we were hoping to catch a glimpse of the legendary country music star. The security guard smiled at us, and when we showed him our backstage passes, he let us through, much to the dissent of some of the people standing there; they were probably complaining because they didn't get to go with us.
We went to where Loretta Lynn was, and she looked rather pale and tired (we knew she had just gotten out of the hospital, so she probably wasn't feeling her best); but she still managed to smile and hug all of us as she greeted us. We told her that we were sorry to learn that she had been sick, but Loretta grinned and said, "I'm a feelin' better; nothin' can keep this ole country gal down!" in that wonderful Kentucky twang of hers. She then quickly signed a few of our things; and after we thanked her, we came back out and thanked the security guard and made our way to the showroom floor, where we took our seats at one of the long tables in front of the stage. We were up against the stage; we had terrific seats.
At ten thirty, right on the dot, the show started with Loretta Lynn's backup band, "The CoalMiners", doing several songs; and then it was time to introduce the star of the show, the Coal Miner's Daughter, Loretta Lynn, herself. When she came onto the stage, the entire concert hall attendees went into wild applause and screams. People were on their feet, and cameras were flashing as Loretta made her way to the stage.
Loretta was wearing a black jacket and pants ensemble over a sparkly bright orange shirt; and her hair was styled; and she looked wonderful. She broke into her first song, "Hey, Loretta", and the crowd was screaming its approval. During a break from one of the songs, two young women several rows back yelled at the top of their lungs, "WE LOVE YOU, LORETTA!!", and Loretta acknowledged them by saying, "Well, I love you, too, sweethearts", and the two women screamed excitedly as they sat back down. In fact, many people were screaming, and Ronee' was probably doing a good majority of it! :) She was being rather noisy, much to her father's dissent; he kept telling her to quiet down or he was going to put her into the van.
Loretta sang all of her hits: "You Ain't Woman Enough (To Take My Man)", "Fist City", "The Pill", "Blue Kentucky Girl," "Love Is The Foundation", "Country In My Genes", "One's On The Way", and the best for last, "Coal Miner's Daughter". She was on stage for over an hour; and she had the entire audience in her command; and during the show she had audience members yell out songs they wanted to hear. She also joked and bantered with her band members, and it was an all around good show. At the end of "Coal Miner's Daughter" the audience was on its feet, and the cheers grew deafening.
By now, several of the kids were fast asleep; even the noise from the music and the crowd didn't wake them. I was getting rather tired by now, too; and after we loaded up the kids into the vans, we then headed back to our hotel; and we called it a night. We were all feeling good, and most of us were tired, but we all had smiles on our faces, as a reminder of the wonderful evening we just had. Loretta Lynn had put on a wonderful, memorable concert, and she had pleased her fans with an evening of unforgettable music, even though she, herself, wasn't feeling her best and had just gotten out of the hospital.
sounds like a good time...great descriptive write! (((HUGS))) and love, karla. :) (i love the way you incorporated "us"--the two young women several rows back who screamed, 'we love you, loretta!')
