Another family I have created. Thought this series was done, but I guess I was wrong! :)
My name is Preston w. Breaux, and this is my family's story.
My wife, Therese, and I live in Lafayette, Louisiana, and we live there with our brood of 8 rambunctious children who range in age from 13 on down to the age of two years. Our children are all adopted, and all have special needs.
Bianca Rose, our oldest, comes from Spain, and she has Down's syndrome. She may be a teenager, but mentally, she is more like a child of six. She loves to play with her dolls and watch tv; and she loves to swing on the swingset in our backyard. She was adopted at the age of ten; we have had her three years now.
Our second oldest daughter, Matilda Angelina, also has Down's syndrome; but she is less affected than her sister. She goes to a regular elementary school, where she is mainstreamed in most of her classes. She came to us two years ago from Italy, and she is really picking up in her English.
Our oldest boy, Seth Paul, is ten, and he came to us two years ago from Abbeville, Louisiana, after his parents died. He has severe asthma and allergies; and he has often gone into the hospital with his breathing; but he is still a very happy and outgoing little boy. Nothing seems to keep him down for long.
Felycia Morgan, aged nine, is our Miracle Angel from New Iberia, Louisiana; we have had her the longest, since she was two years old. She has a condition known as spinal muscular atrophy, which has weakened her considerably; she is confined to a wheelchair, and she needs help with just about all her needs; but despite her challenges, she is a very happy and delightful little girl with an infectious giggle and sparkly black eyes. Doctors didn't think she would live as long as she has, but somehow, she keeps defying the odds; and she is still with us by the Grace of God Above.
Lucas Thu is 7 years old, and he came to us from Vietnam a year ago; and he is another child who has Down's syndrome. He is probably the most affected by it, and he goes to a special school for handicapped students and appears to be doing very well. He also has some heart concerns, and he has had two surgeries; but for now he is doing well.
Marissa Chimala, our 6-year-old daughter, came to us at the same time Lucas did; but she came to us from India. She has spina bifida and is just now learning to get around on crutches and leg braces. She has had a lot of problems with infections; and she has been in and out of the hospital; but at the present time she is doing rather well. She is feeling better than she has in weeks, and she is finally starting to get her personality back.
Logan Michael, our four-year-old, has been with us for 6 months; and he came to us from Russia. He has spina bifida, too, but doesn't seem to have the severity of problems as does his sister. He is a little terror on crutches; and if you aren't careful, he just may run you over! He is our little family "cheetah".
Our youngest child, is also our newest. We have had Noah Benjamin for only two months; but already he has left quite an impact on our hearts. He is a little charmer from Texas, and he came to us because his mother abandoned him when she learned that he was HIV positive. He has been sick quite frequently, and he has been in the hospital a few times because of colds or pneumonia. We think he may have AIDS, but right now doctors aren't quite sure. He's had the tests, but so far the tests have been negative or "inconclusive".
And that is our family. Our eight children who are Miracles in their own way.
To introduce myself, my name is Preston, as I said at the beginning, and my wife is Therese; but we are both very much involved in our children's lives. We both work part-time at Home Depot, but when we are NOT working we are very much involved with our children. Our children are our top concern, and we will do all we can to make sure that they have whatever they need in life.
We started adopting seven years ago, when we added Felycia to our family, and ever since, it has snowballed; and our family has grown from just one child to eight total. We never realized just how much of an impact these special children would make in our lives until we started adopting, and now we can't imagine our lives without any of the children. We have met other families at adoption seminars or picnics put on by different adoption agencies; and these families have been very supportive of our efforts.
i'm *so* glad you've restarted this series...it should be required reading for anyone who knows anyone with a disability, or cares for them...EXCELLENT! this should be in a book, as all of your stories should be...(((HUGS))) and love, karla. :)
