Today, even in this scary and uncertain time, I feel nothing but pride and relief. You see, a young teenaged girl who had been missing for 8 months was found alive. A lonely drifter had kidnaped her. For a while, people thought someone else had taken her, but it turned out that it was somebody altogether different. The girl lived with her family in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Details for me are still sketchy; so pardon me if I make any errors. I just found out about it a short time ago, and the joy I feel in my heart and soul is nothing short of incredible. Too many times, innocent children, be they babies, toddlers, or even teenagers, are kidnaped by strangers or people they know; and a lot of the time people never see or hear from these children ever again; and a lot of the time, these children are found murdered or living in another country, with no way of ever getting them back home. It makes for an agonizing ordeal for all those families involved; and I can't imagine the pain they must be feeling.
I am 15 years old, and my family is always watching out over us kids. With a family our size, one can't be too careful, especially with all the nuts or perverts running about; and my parents are absolutely terrified that one of us may get kidnaped or worse. What makes it even more frightening for them is the fact that a lot of the kids in my family (including myself) are physically or mentally handicapped (or both, as in Todd's, Jodie's, and Roberto's case). A lot of my brothers and sisters can't really defend themselves, and the thought of finding Johnny, Ronee', or any of the other more seriously handicapped kids raped or murdered in such a heinous way absolutely terrifies me.
This is why we have a guard dog, and this is why our house has a security system that immediately alerts the police, fire, or medical departments, in case a problem should happen to crop up unexpectedly; and this is why we have floodlights around the front of the house. This way, we can see any creeps that may be trying to enter our home (plus our Great Dane, "Marmaduke", makes plenty of enough noise as it is to alert us of trouble).
One can't be too careful, especially nowadays.
I just wish more families with children who are missing or abducted could have a happy ending as Elizabeth Smart's family has right now. Oh, can you imagine the celebrations that will take place once the rest of the world hears of her happy ending? WOW, what a bona fide Miracle of God!! :) PRAISE THE LORD (and this coming from a Buddhist!)!!!! :)
