Karen Lynn Vidra, The Texas Tornado, click here to update your pages on AuthorsDen.

Livin' in Oklahoma, you gotta' expect the unexpected, especially when it comes to the weather....

I, Karen Lynn Vidra, the authoress of this story, lives in "Tornado Alley", in north central Texas. I love Texas and her people, but thw weather sucks; and there are NO BASEMENTS here! WHAT GIVES???? :( "i wish i had a baaasement".... :0
My name is Cimmeron Kata ("Kate") O'Shea, and I live in northeast Oklahoma. I live in a town northeast of Tulsa called Skiatook; and during the springtime, we have some whizbangdoodle storms that can pop up with little warning.

Take the one time the F-5 tornado levelled Oklahoma City, on May 3, 1999. I was glued to the tv when the weather guy, Gary England, came on, talking about this monster tornado that was bearing down on Oklahoma City like a runaway freight train; and seeing the thing live on television literally scared the poop outta' me. They were showing it on tv, and it looked like a fat vacuum cleaner sucking up everything in its path.

It didn't come here (THANK GOD!), but I was left shaking in my boots for days and weeks; the devastation they showed was beyond description. It was like an atom bomb had detonated right in the middle of OkCity (what we Okies call Oklahoma City!), and I couldn't imagine what those poor people must be going through, especially if they had lost loved ones or friends or even their homes and material possessions. It had to be pure-tee HELL for them!

Living smack dab in the middle of Tornado Alley has made us weatherwise and ready to react if severe weather should happen to wander our way. Those tornado sirens are made for a reason; and they have saved countless lives (as have the weather forecasting advancements). This is why we have a storm cellar; that way, if it comes up a cloud (fixin' to storm, for y'all who don't understand Okie talk), we can get to shelter in the nick of time (and hopefully, survive!). This is why we have a weather radio, 'cause buddy, if it goes off, you gonna' know it FAST! Plus it purty might scare the living crap outta' you (especially if you be the one sittin' right near it if it goes off!)!! YIKES!! :0

Now, many people livin' here in T-Alley don't perticularly care for storms, but they don't bother me much. I just go along with the stuff that comes along with severe weather (plus do an awful lot of praying!), and I pray that our property doesn't get smacked by a tornado! But I surely don't want none of them F-5ers wanderin' this away, or I just might take off, runnin' faster than a cheetah! (And, I probably might even BEAT the cheetah!!) :)
