Ronee' 's twin sister, Robyn, shares her life story. She was adopted by a different family, and was reunited with Ronee' just a year-and-a-half ago.
Have you ever had something so incredible happen to you that you are still pinching yourself, to see if it was all a dream?
Well, I had that happen to me over a year-and-a-half ago, and I still find myself not believing; yet, it happened, and because of it, I am a much happier girl.
My name is Robyn. Robyn Charmaigne Reaux. I am 10 years old, and I live with my adoptive family, the Mulligans, in Nashville, Tennessee. I was adopted at the age of 8, nearly two years ago.
I am also a twin; my twin sister's name is Ronee', and she and I look alike, excepting she is smaller and thinner than I am, and she happens to be on forearm crutches and leg braces because of arthritis in her joints. I just met her not long after I was adopted, and it all started with a letter she had written to me. She wrote about herself, and she wanted to let me know that she was looking for me. Well, you can imagine the surprise I felt when I found out that I had a twin sister. (We had been seperated after we had been born; see, Ronee' was born sickly, and our real mother didn't seem to want her; she was so sure that Ronee' was going to die. So she abandoned her, which I thought was a rotten thing to do to a little baby.) I was left behind, too, but that was only after my parents had gotten a divorce; and I ended up in foster care. I was in foster care for 4 years. I was nearly four years old then.
Well, after I was adopted, we met not long after (it turned out that she lived across the street from me!), and you can imagine the tears we cried when we first saw each other face to face. It was almost like looking in a mirror, excepting she was shorter, and as I said earlier, she was on crutches and leg braces. But she still could walk.
We have since become much closer, and we are the best of friends besides being sisters, although we do live with different families. (Our half-sister, LuAnne Kay, who is 15, also lives with me.) So it is like the Reaux Sisters are reunited again; and it feels wonderful to know that we are together at long last after years of wondering and searching. It's like a piece of the puzzle has finally been found and then put into place; and the puzzle is now complete.
And that is a very satisfying and happy feeling, indeed! :)
