A mother writes of her children and the many blessings they bring to her.
I got the idea for this story from looking at a sleeping little girl a few computers down from me. Her parents were on the computer, and the little girl was lying on the floor, on her stomach, fast asleep. She looked just like a little angel, and this was how I got the title for this story! :) It is strange how my story ideas come about....
I look at the faces of my children, who are now nestled, asleep, in their beds; and I am at once filled with a sense of pride, accomplishment, and love. They have brought tremendous joy and blessings to Bill's and my life; and if it were not for God Himself, we wouldn't have these beautiful children.
They lie in their beds, and they look relaxed and peaceful; and I oftentimes wonder what dreams are going through their young minds. They have a lot of worries and struggles in their lives; yet God has seen them through some of the most difficult challenges they could have ever faced. They are older (and wiser) now, and they have matured so much since they came into our lives.
Some of the children (like Kwame') have been with us for only a short while, but others (like Johnny and Ronee') have been with us going on eight (or more) years; and it is hard to believe how fast they are growing. Both Johnny and Ronee' are quickly headed towards puberty and teendom, and it seems like only yesterday when they were tiny babies and I first held them in my arms. Now Johnny is worried about the first signs of "puberty", and Ronee' has gotten her first bra and insists on wearing it, even though she has nothing up front, to show for it. And Steffi and Tanya will be graduating from high school next year, following suit behind the four previous "graduates", Dwerlina, Lightning, Melizza, and Dianna. She will probably then be looking towards college and leaving home. One by one, it seems that our children are leaving the nest, and our family seems to be getting smaller and smaller.
Now we have three grandchildren to look after, and we are starting to show our age, meaning Bill and myself. I am getting greyer all the time, and Bill is having more trouble with his arthritis acting up, and it is hard to believe that we have been married for nearly 13 years now.
Even though they do have their problems, our children have brought us much in the way of hope and blessings, and they have taught us what it means to have courage in the face of incredible odds. They do not let their disabilities get the best of them, and they have brought much joy and inspiration to many people. They are doers, and they refuse to let their disabilities stand in their way, no matter how significant or "severe" they may be. They know how to win the hearts of others, and they have brought others to Jesus Christ through their actions and talents. And they have taught many the true meanings of friendship, acceptance, joy, hope, and love.
I lately have been wondering if they are angels in disguise because they have made quite a powerful impact, not only on us, their parents, but on other people as well, and people are always telling me what a marvelous job we are doing with the children and how blessed we are to have such a group of children in our lives. And they have brought out the best in people, even though these people may be hurting themselves.
I give all the Glory and Praise to God, as He is The One who was responsible into bringing our special-needs children into our lives; and He is The One who blessed us with their presence. If that isn't a big enough blessing in our lives, then I don't know what is!
Each child on this earth is a blessing. How beautiful this story is, Karen...as you allow us a glimpse into these loving and definitely blessed lives. Heartwarming! Hugs, Lizzie :)
This book consists of a 150 pages of Christian poetry about the end of time and the Second coming of Jesus Christ not as a servant but as a King, the King of kings. To bring righteousness and peace to the earth and restore the government of God! Peac
