A child who is disabled often sees herself as "normal", even though she is not. She wants people to accept her as she is on the inside, not for what she is on the outside.

She wrote this piece the other day, before she got injured by the hail and ended up in the hospital.
I am a child first, and I am a child who happens to be good at many things. I also love life, and life loves me back.

I seem to be a happy girl, and I AM a lot of the time, but I have my moments where I do feel sorry for myself. I don't walk as well as many kids do (I have arthritis, and because of it I use crutches, and I wear braces on my legs, and I sometimes use a wheelchair); however, compared to a LOT of people, I think I have it very good. I can see, talk, think, and do just about everything for myself, and if I need help, I will ask for it (but NOT until then!). Sometimes, I DO need some extra help, but I usually just try to do everything for myself.

I also have asthma and allergies, and I take medication for it; and in THAT department, I am doing GREAT. My asthma and allergies aren't as bad as they were when I was really little (although there are some things where I still HAVE to be careful, like with peanuts or penicillin; I am highly allergic to both, and if I get too much, I can die if I don't get emergency help right away), and my doctors are really happy that I am doing better. (To tell you the truth, so am I! LOL)

Even though I use crutches or use a wheelchair at times, I still see myself as a normal kid. I have normal kid interests, and I do many things that normal kids do. I go to school, I have a family who loves me, and I love music and hanging out with my friends and family. I also have a very busy social life, and church and performing keeps me busy. I am trying to become a famous singer, and I have been on tv several times, and I have been honored to have met many of my favorites (sung with a few of 'em, too! :) ).

All of this, even with having a disability (make that disabiliTIES). They aren't going to stop me, and anyone else who thinks that they might has another thing coming 'cause I am one of these type of people who DOESN'T give up all that easily. If I am going to do something, I am GONNA' DO IT..MY way!

I am a WINNER, and life has been too good for me to make me want to give up! I've come this far; WHY quit now when life is treating me so good right now?? That would be just plain STUPID! :(
