A young girl writes in her computer journal about how lucky she is to have a mother like Louisiana. This is her tribute to her.
*~*~*~*~*~*WHAT A MOMMY IS*~*~*~*~*~*
~Written on Tuesday, June 3, 2003~
A mommy is a person who takes care of you and goes out of their way to make sure you have all the necessities in life (food, clothing, shelter, love) that you need in order to survive. My mother does this, and so much more. My mommy is a very giving, loving person, and she isn't afraid to say that she loves me.
A mommy is a person who will defend you like a dog defends its bone or its home. My mommy is certainly no exception, and I compare her to a wolf or a dog looking after its food, its home, or its family. She would fight to the death to ensure that we are safe, if it ever came to that, and she isn't afraid of sticking up for us or our needs. She wants to make sure that we are treated equally and with dignity; and nothing makes her madder than to see people running us down or hurting our feelings.
A mommy is a person who marries the man who will become a father; and in mommy's case, she married a very tall man named Bill who is my daddy. They aren't my real parents, but they are the only parents that I have ever known. See, my real mommy and daddy abandoned me when I was in the hospital (I was born very premature, and I was sick; and they decided that they no longer wanted me), and so Bill and Louisiana Sandusky became my parents when they adopted me when I was only a couple months old.
A mommy is a person who knows how to cook. My mommy is a bang-up cook; she can cook anything from Cajun to Mexican, and just about everything in between; and if there is one thing that we Cajuns know, it is COOKING! In fact, we Cajuns have made cooking an art form! :) (BTW, my daddy is no slouch when it comes to cooking either: he can cook just about as well as mommy can!)
A mommy is a person who will hold you at night if you get sick or scared during the middle of the night, and a mommy is a person who will do all she can to keep you from getting sick or hurt (or, if you ARE sick or hurt, she will do everything in her power to make sure that you feel a little better, especially if you are in the hospital). My mommy is especially good at this because she happens to be a nurse, and she works at a local hospital not far from our home; and if there is one thing she can do really well, it is taking care of people and trying to make them feel better by easing their fears or their pain. (Believe you me, I KNOW from experience!)
And finally, a mommy is a person who spends all but her sleeping time taking care of the ones she loves most: her husband or her kids, or even her parents if need be. She may be tired a lot of the time, but that is what mommies do: take care of family and children.

This was another beautiful write Karen you never cease to amaze me. The last time you contacted me you inquired about our book Voices of the Differently Abled I wanted to let you know I am still in search of a publisher that would fit our book. I am sorry I have not yet gotten back to you but I have a computer who does not want to cooperate. Actually I think its the internet we are in the process of switching over.
