Ronee' is now in the Pediatric ward, sleeping off the effects from her surgery. She did very well with the surgery.
I am sitting with Ronee', as she continues to sleep off the effects from her surgery she just had this morning. She is still looking pale and sleepy, but she still looks good for having just gone through surgery.
Ronee' still has on the oxygen mask on her face, and she is also on a heart monitor because she does have some respiratory problems, and her doctors want to make sure that she doesn't have any problems. With her past health history, and with her having complications in the past with her breathing, and with her having asthma and allergies, one can't be too careful with her. She has an I.V. line in her hand, and she is being given antibiotics and pain medication to help stave off some of the pain from her knee. She also has a catheter tube in her bladder, as she can't get out of bed to void, and she also has a pulse oxymeter attached to her little toe on her foot. So far, her vital signs have continued to remain stable, which is always good news.
I try to tell myself that the pain in her knee is now behind her, but I am sure she will feel pain in her knee once she wakes. That is normal after surgery, but it shouldn't be too bad, thanks to the pain medication she is being given in her I.V., and if it doesn't help, she can always be given more. Maybe once she recovers and is strong enough, she will be able to get around much easier, and maybe she won't fall as often. She has really had a hard time of it lately with her walking prior to this surgery, and she has been using her wheelchair more often than usual.
Uh oh..Ronee' is starting to come out of the anesthesia; she is moving around on the bed, and she is moaning. I go to her, and I take her hand in mine; and she opens her eyes halfway and manages to give me a small smile; I tell her that the surgery is overwith, and she is now on her way to getting better. Suddenly, she turns green in the face, turns her head to the side, and then vomits in her oxygen mask. I quickly pull off the mask and help clean up the mess from her face, the mask, and her chest, and I also try to comfort her as she begins to cry. She has never enjoyed throwing up (but then, what person DOES?), and she feels ashamed that she has made a mess; but I tell her that everything is going to be okay, and not to worry about it. I then have the nurse give her a shot of antinausea medication, and she then goes back to sleep a few minutes later.
I then call Bill, my husband (and her father), and I tell him that Ronee' has successfully come through surgery; and I tell him that I will probably be home within an hour or so, just as soon as I get a bite to eat. He says that he will be by later, but I tell him that visiting hours will be over by the time he gets here, so just to wait until the morning; and then we could both see her when I am on break from work tomorrow. In the meantime, we can just let Ronee' sleep and get her needed rest as she continues to recover from her knee surgery.

Author's note: I will keep you up to date on Ronee' 's recovery from her knee surgery. She should be in the hospital for a few days, then she will continue to recover from her surgery at home. She will also have physical therapy once she is strong enough.
