The story of a very special doctor who works in the E.R.
Winifred Anne Brady is my name, and I happen to be a doctor. I am not only a doctor: I happen to be an Emergency Room doctor.
I have been a doctor going on for 15 years now, and I arrived here in Nashville, Tennessee, from San Diego, California. I love my work, and I have seen and witnessed many things, some joyful, others absolutely heartbreaking and tragic. I have seen things that no human should even have to see.
I was born in the San Diego, California area, in 1955, and when I was five, in 1960, I was felled by polio that left me partially paralyzed and depending on leg braces and forearm crutches (which I still use today, but they don't keep me from doing my job). I was now disabled, but I didn't let my disability stop me, and it was because of my disability that I eventually decided to become a doctor because the doctors I had when I was in the hospital recovering from my bout of poliomyelitis took really good care of me.
After I graduated from high school, I went into medical school, and I learned to become a doctor; and 15 years ago, in 1988, I got my license to practice Medicine; and I have been a doctor ever since. My specialty is Emergency Room and Trauma Care.
I love my job; it is very challenging, and it is never dull. Each day is different, and I meet so many people, both workers and patients, and I enjoy the excitement and neverending drama that Emergency Medicine can bring. Oh, the hours are long, and at times, the pay is lousy, but it IS my line of work, and it is the only kind of work I know. There is nothing more satisfying or gratifying to me than to save a person's life, and if I can give them a chance or survival, then it is worth everything in the world.
To tell a little about MYSELF, I am 48 years old, and I am married to my husband, Tony; and we have 3 wonderful kids, Hallie (15), Greg (12), and Sophia (9). We have four cats (all Maine Coons) named "Spritz", "Chewie" (short for "Chewbakka"; my son is a "Star Wars" freak), "Jewel", and "Morgan", and we have two dogs, both Huskies, named "Nordic" and "Aurora" (for aurora borealis). I am fairly tall (5'7" tall), and I weigh about 130 pounds. I have short, short light brown hair and dark brown eyes, and I have worn glasses for most of my life. People say I resemble the actress Laura Innes, who plays Dr. Kelly Weaver on the hit TV show, "E.R.", and sometimes they think I am her, which I find rather humorous!
