A teenaged boy writes about why he loves living in America. (He was adopted at the age of 10 from Vietnam.)
I love America because here you have freedom, hope, and a chance to succeed in life.
I also love America because there is so much diversity in our people and in the languages we speak. In America, you can have people who are black, white, yellow (like me), tan, or red, and here in America, one can hear all sorts of different languages spoken: Spanish, English, French, Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese, German, Polish, Russian. You especially can hear these languages in the bigger cities, and you can also hear it at my house; different languages are commonplace.
I love America because you can choose what you want to do in life, and you can be any religion you so desire. You don't have to be a Christian to live here in America; you can be Buddhist, Muslim, Christian, Wiccan, Jehovah's Witness, Mormon, or any other religion (or even not be any if you so choose). I am a Christian now, but I was a Buddhist until I accepted Christ nearly one year ago. Now I go to a church that preaches the Word of God, and I enjoy it very much.
In America, you can work anywhere or go to any school or college. You can study to become a teacher, a draftsman, a doctor or a lawyer, or even work in a factory or a restaurant if that is what you want to do in life. You can go to any big college like Yale or Princeton or Harvard, or you can go to any of the countless smaller schools that aren't as well known, and you can study to become whatever you wish. You can be a doctor, or you can be an artist, or you can even be a biochemist.
And America is so diverse: you have mountains, oceans, swampland, sprawling cities and urban areas, teeny tiny little towns so small they aren't even on a map, deserts, and farmlands that stretch on for miles and miles. Each area is unique, and one can't possibly imagine the diversity America holds until one comes to America to visit or decides to go on a crosscountry trek of our country. All people are welcome to America, and every year, thousands and thousands of visitors from other lands come here to see America or even move here for a chance to better themselves.
This is why I love America, and this is why I am proud to be an American of Vietnamese descent. I am proud of America and all that it stands for, and I am glad that I now have a home here.

I enjoyed reading this. I'm working on a new short story myself, started it last night.

Ya know it may sound strange but I LOVE AMERICA as well..always have..I grew up in Australia and the Aussies LOVE the Americans...there is so much anti-American rubbish written lately..it's really "givin' me the pip" as the Aussies would say...in other words it makes me livid to read all that nonsense...America has always been a synonyim for freedom peace and just plain niceness..God bless you all ...
Excellent write Karen...
