A little girl writes why she loves America and why she loves the Fourth of July.
Hi!
I am Ronee' Le-Anne Reaux, and I am 10 1/2 years old. I am writing about America and why I love her, as it is going to be Independence Day, or July 4th in only three days. I figure this would be a great time to write something about why I love America the way I do!
I love America because first and foremost, it is my Home, the land where I was born; and I am also FREE. I love America because here people have the chance to better their lives, and I love America because you can be anything your little heart desires. You can be an actress, an astronaut (or an astrolady; I don't really know what you call an astronaut who is a LADY! LOL), a doctor or a nurse (like my mommy; she is a nurse!), a lawyer, or even a factory or restaurant worker if that is what you want to do in life. Here in America you can go to any school or college you want, and you also can not go to school or college if that is what you want (but personally, I think you are making a big mistake, as education is extremely important. If you want a good job, you need a good education!).
I also love America because people of all faiths or backgrounds are welcome here (just as long as you aren't a terrorist; since September 11, 2001, happened, government officials are checking people out more, and if they have any ties to terrorist groups, chances are, they aren't going to make it here!), and there is so much in the way of diversity. Here in America you have people who come from Europe or Asia, Africa, Canada or Mexico, Central or South America, or the Middle East; and I think America's people look like a patchwork quilt because of all the different colors of skins, eyes, and hair.
Another reason I love America is because when we have holidays, such as the Fourth of July, we have ways of celebrating these special days in a very grand way. We have parades, barbeques and picnics, festivals, massive firework displays, patriotic (and other) music, speeches or plays about our country's birth and founding, and just being with our family, friends, and loved ones. Personally, I love the parades and the fireworks; and I love singing "God Bless America" or "The National Anthem" for others. (At our city's festival, I have been asked to sing either "The Star Spangled Banner" or "God Bless America" at the celebration, and I always feel so happy whenever I do this! I always get a sense of pride, and it is during this time when I am especially happy to be an American! :) )
All too often I hear of other nations having problems (we have our own share of problems here in America, too), but compared to a lot of places, America has what many places do NOT have: FREEDOM. This is what sets America apart from most nations because here at least you have a chance of making it, and you can do just about anything you want to do in life. Sure, we have violence and stuff going on here all the time (especially in the bigger cities), but we don't have wars here, and terrorism isn't as big of a threat here (but September 11, 2001, changed all that; and ever since, specially-trained police and other government people have been watching our borders, our airports, and other public places for signs of terrorist activity and have made many arrests). And we can learn to appreciate what we have because not having our freedom would be very tragic and sad, indeed!
In three more days, we will be celebrating yet another Independence Day, and we will be honoring our country and what we stand for. Many other nations will join us in our celebration, but there will be those who will stop at nothing to try to hurt us, like they did on September 11, 2001, and so security will be especially tight at places we go to, whether it be at a ballgame, a festival, a fireworks display, our airports, or wherever. One can't be too careful, and we certainly don't want another September 11, 2001, happening here ever again; so this is why all this extra security is needed.
Personally, I feel safer knowing that there are people watching out for trouble; wouldn't want anything bad to happen on our nation's birthday! :(
