A story/song, written in poetry form by two children. This is their first attempt. (The characters listed are of my imagination.)
The song is done in a Cajun country style beat with traditional Cajun accordion, fiddle, and steel guitar.
Let freedom ring! Hear the bells ring across our great land!
Let the flags wave high, and let us take one another by the hand!
It is time to celebrate America, the Land of the Free;
And why that freedom is so precious to you and to me!

We live in a land where the flag is colored red, white, and blue,
And the people are of different faiths and come in multicolored hues.
We come from all nations, but in America, you are welcomed upon our shores,
And we welcome all visitors with widely open doors!
It doesn't matter what you believe in, we take in people from all faiths,
And we will give you a smile when you enter America's gates!
And if you choose to live here, freedom will be yours for the taking;
And isn't freedom better than having to live in fear or have hearts breaking?

Men died so that today we could be free;
even though we may cry, today we have Peace and liberty.
They died in wars, fought hard to defend our land,
And today people still cry, try hard to understand.
People don't understand, but freedom has a cost,
This is why we must remember those brave men whose lives were lost.
So next time you see a veteran, thank him for fighting for America's peace,
And feel the pride in your chest as tears of gratitude are released!
