The killer was still lose, that thought made her tremble.
Chapter 3

When they reached the apartment building Amy got out of the car and climbed the steps, numb to everything going on around her. The bandage on her neck itched, making her want to rip it off, but she knew better. All she wanted was a pain pill and sleep. Michelle came in behind her and directed Amy to the guest bedroom. She walked in, but just stood beside the bed. Michelle brought her some pajamas to sleep in, and told her that she could get dressed for bed and she would bring her pills for her to take before she went to sleep. Amy went through the motions, without thought or feeling. By the time that Michelle carried the pill and a glass of water to the bedroom, Amy was in the bed huddled under the covers, half asleep. She sat up only long enough to swallow the medicine and say good night. It wasn’t long before sleep over took her. She slept so deep that no dreams even invaded.
The next morning, Amy opened her eyes to bright sunshine streaming across the bed. It must be after nine, and she was still in bed. Amy couldn’t believe it; she was usually up before six, getting ready for her jog. When the realization of how her life had changed last night hit her, she thought she was going to be crushed by the weight of it all. She would have just stayed in bed all day, but she knew she had to plan a funeral for the love of her life. Amy didn’t know how she was going to get through this day. When Amy went in the kitchen, Michelle as drinking orange juice and eating a piece of toast. When she saw Amy she got up and gave her a hug, but didn’t say anything. When she released her, Michelle asked Amy if she was hungry, and when she said no, Michelle didn’t push it. Amy wasn’t sure what her next move was. She knew she had to plan a funeral for Robert, but she wasn’t sure where to start. Michelle helped guide her, telling Amy she needed to call a funeral home, which would talk to the police of Robert body. The police had to release the body before they could do anything else. After the funeral home confirmed what Michelle had said Amy hung up the phone, and went to sit by the window. “You know, it’s almost like he is not really gone, but instead of being here, where I can see him, it is more like he is a here with me, but more like a shadow by my shadow. I can feel him here, and sometimes think I can see him, but I will never run my fingers along his face, or feel him hold me in his arms. Amy pulled her knees up to her face, not caring the tears were wetting her jeans. Robert had held her in his arms every time she cried, smoothing her hair and talking soothingly, not try to jump in and fix it. It broke her heart in two to think he would never be there for her ever again. Deep, anguish rose from her in uncontrolled sobbed. Michelle sat beside her, rubbing her back, not want to smother her. Eventually, the sobbed subsided and the tears began to dry. Amy decided to go for a jog, to try to clear her head, and get some exercise. She had never been one to just sit and do nothing, and right now was no exception. Since funeral plans were on hold, she saw now reason to sit and wait idle. She could grieve without sitting around.

On her run, Amy tried to keep herself distracted, not to think of Robert, if she thought about him she would break down, and she didn’t want to do that, not here, not now. Every time she started to think of him, she would run faster to take her mind off Robert. She didn’t realize it, but she was soon running at break neck speed. She kept running until she couldn’t go anymore. Amy sat down on a bench, tipping her head back, she gulped in air, like a fish out of the water. Her head spun and she thought she was going to faint, but the
Spinning passed over, and she began to get her bearing back. Amy looked around, realizing she was a lot farther from the apartment then she intended to go. The killer was still lose, that thought made her tremble. She decided that she better be heading back to the apartment. Turning in the direction that she had come from, Amy began her trek. When she reached the apartment, totally spent emotionally and physically, all she wanted was a shower and sleep. She could hear Michelle in the kitchen, cooking dinner and listening to one of her favorite Celine Dion CDs. Something drew her to the kitchen, maybe it was the music, or the need to be near someone who understood her. When she entered, Amy grabbed one of the barstools and sat down. “Did you have a good run?” Michelle said, having never even turned her back. “It helped a lot with clearing my head” Amy answered. Amy knew that Michelle would understand if she wanted to shower and crash for the night, that was the kind of friend she was to Amy. “I think I am going to shower and crash for the night, if that is ok.” “Sure, do whatever you feel like you need to. It’s been along day for me too, so I might turn in early as well” was Michelle’s reply. After changing into pajamas, Amy climbed into bed, but sleep didn’t claim her as quickly it did the night before. She tossed and turned, trying to drift off. She finally decided to get up for a while. Amy walked into the living room, and sat down next to the window. I looking up at the moon, she began to think about how much her life had changed in the last twenty-four hours. She had lost her husband. Even though he was gone, she knew that he would always be a part of her life. What she said earlier to Michelle was true . Robert was now just like shadow
