Even the best laid plans can go wrong !

They met on the lonely sea wall . The businessman and the hit man. The businessman, a prominent man in the community waited in a small car as he watched the hit man drew closer on his motorcycle as was prearranged. As the hit man pull up near the car window, he was handed a brown manila enveloped. “Every thing you need is inside, included part of your fee “ said the businessman in a soft voice, adding,” when the job is finished you know how to contact me, ok.?” “Yes” replied the hit man coolly, collecting the envelope, a slight smile crossing his thick lips, his beady eyes checking out the businessman through his dark glasses. “ Good,” replied the businessman,” “and I don’t want any foul ups, you got it? “ The hit man took offense at the statement “ remember you are talking with a professional !” he reminded the businessman in a stony voice. The businessman sensing his mistake, quickly apologized. The hit man nodded his acceptance of the apology rode off down the narrow asphalt road and disappeared around a block leaving the businessman sweating in his car. He breathed a sigh of relief, took out a handkerchief and mopped his thick brows. “Well “,he said to himself “ the die is now cast, there is no turning back now” He then shifted the gear and drove off. It transpired that the businessman was having a torrid love affair with his secretary. Her husband was in the way, so they had planned to get rid him so that they could have all the freedom to go on a holiday and enjoy each other’s company without having all the fearful stress and strain of the clandestine hiding and seeking. The plan was that the crime would be made to look like a break and enter affair, where the husband would be shot dead and after a decent period of mourning the couple would then get together on some Caribbean island where they would enjoy themselves without fear. However, foolishly he and told the hit man that it was a business matter, that the target was moving into his territory of business, so he had to be eliminated. A couple of days passed and yet no word from the hit man and the businessman was getting a bit worried that maybe something was amiss. he felt uneasy. when on the fourth day, he received a phone call at his home. He quickly snatched up the phone . “Yes?”he quired nervously. “It’s me” said a calm voice from the other end Recognizing the voice, he breathed a sigh of relief and said “well, it’s about time, I was beginning to worry… how did it go?” “I got him all right, but there was a slight hitch” The businessman stiffened, a feeling of foreboding engulfing him. “Hitch?, what sort of a hitch?” he quired frantically” What are you talking about?” “Well, er, you see,” replied the hit man after clearing his throat nervously,” It was like this, I managed to get into the bedroom where I found him and shot him twice in the head, the wife began screaming, I panicked and shot her too. now they are both dead...I couldn’t help it,”. The phone went dead at the other end of the line as the businessman slumped into a sofa in total disbelief ! The End
