Figured I would try to cool off by writing a wintertime story. It is so hot here in northcentral Texas: currently, the temperature is a steamy 106 degrees!

Gotta try to cool off somehow...if you don't like the heat, DON'T come to Texas right now! TRUST ME!! LOL

Can't wait until winter; just don't handle the heat as well as I used to (and never DID like it! LOL)....
It is hot here in Tennessee; temps in the 90's. Makes me want to think about the storm we had last winter, when we got socked with a foot and a half of snow (we had several winter storms this past winter)....

It was January, 2003. Winter had taken the south hostage in its cruel, icy grip; and believe you me, with my Cajun bloodlines, I was NOT enjoying the cold weather! The temperature was a frigid 12 degrees above zero--with a wind chill factor of something like 10 below. It was BRUTALLY cold out there, man!

It was snowing to beat the band outside, and I knew when I awoke that morning, that we were due a snow day. The wind was howling; and just the sound of it was enough to make chillbumps pop out on my skin, even though I was buried under two thick blankets to try to keep warm!

I looked at my two still-sleeping sisters. Ronee' was buried in the covers, with only her dark head sticking out from underneath, and she was snoring, just as she always does when she is sleeping hard. Gemini, meanwhile, was lying on her back, and one leg was hanging off the bed. (Gemini sleeps above me.) Her foot was hanging down, and for some reason, I wanted to kick it out of the way, but I didn't, for fear she would get mad at me.

I turned on my clock/radio, to get the morning news and weather forecast, and, as I had predicted, there were no schools open. The weather was too bad out, and we had already gotten something like 8" of snow--with at least another 10 or 12" forecasted to fall. We were in the grips of a blizzard. I shut off the radio, and I lay back onto the bed, and I lay there, listening to Ronee' snoring softly. I grinned; she sounded like a little buzzsaw.

I lay there, in my warm and toasty bed, and then I heard this little bitty "Mrreow?" Ronee's cat, "Cajun", had come sauntering into our room, and she then jumped onto my bed, and walked up to me, where she then lay down beside me. Her warm, furry body felt good, and it wasn't long before she started purring. Loudly. She was soon purring so hard, her little furry body was vibrating! It was as though I had a built-in electric blanket, complete with vibrator, on my bed! It really felt good!

I then heard the sound of daddy in the kitchen; he was making coffee and was probably making breakfast: you could soon smell bacon frying and flapjacks a-cookin' on the stove; and the smells soon made my mouth water. I heard maman talking; and I knew she wouldn't be going to work because of the treacherous weather. (Daddy wouldn't be going to work either.) It felt comforting to know that both parents would be home, as would all the children, but I also felt sorry for them because they would have to find a way to keep us, their many children, entertained until the storm subsided.

I soon fell back to sleep. When I awoke again later, it was nearly 11:45, nearly noon. It was still snowing, and I knew we had a big job ahead of us as we would try to clear the driveway from snow as soon as the storm had abated.
