The little boy featured in the earlier story, "Tears For Jermaine..." takes a turn for the worse and dies. He was the little infant who was left in a hot van by his irresponsible 17-year-old mother, Angela.
I am crying so hard I can hardly see in front of me. The little boy who had been left in the hot van a few days back took a turn for the worse and died; and there was nothing we could do to save him. We worked on him for over an hour, but no matter how hard we tried to bring him back, we just couldn't; and an hour and a half later, Dr. Stryker, who is our hospital's chief neurologist, pronounced little Jermaine Michael Dawes dead.
He was just 8 months old, just a little baby who didn't deserve to die in the way he did.
When his mother, Angela, heard the news, she cried and cried, and she was walking around, sobbing, "Oh, my poor baby! Oh, my poor baby!" and was wringing her hands; but from the way she was acting, you probably thought that she was a loving mother. The sight of her crying over her dead baby nauseated me because it was HER that had caused his situation in the first place. SHE was the one who had left little Jermaine in the hot van for an hour while SHE went shopping for groceries. SHE was the one who had caused the little boy to get overheated and then turn deathly sick, and because of it, he had been brought to our hospital, convulsing and running a very high temperature. When brought into the E.R., little Jermaine's body temperature was nearly 107 degrees, which is dangerously high for anyone, let alone, an innocent little baby.
Now, because of her irresponsible behavior, her little son has died, and now she will probably be charged with child neglect or murder.
I hate to sound cruel or callous, but I think she deserves the punishment; she endangered her baby son's life, and because of it, he died. She didn't even think of taking him to the store with her, so she could keep a watchful eye on him, and she didn't think when she left him in that hot van for over an hour. She was only thinking of herself, or she may have been in a hurry, but I find it hard to comprehend her actions, and I find it hard to try to be forgiving to a woman who was careless and irresponsible.
She could have had a very wonderful and happy life with her little son, who could have grown into a fine young man; but she ended his life even before it could have really begun, and it was all her fault. Now her life, as she knows it, is over, and now she will probably be jailed and then charged with her baby son's death.
I look at Dr. Stryker, who is still in the room (little Jermaine's body has since been taken away), and I begin to cry harder. It doesn't seem fair that an innocent little baby has to die at the hands of a negligent parent, and it doesn't seem to make sense. All too often nowadays, you hear of parents leaving their kids to die in hot vans or in some other way where the children are neglected, and it makes me physically sick inside. Don't parents care anymore about their kids? To me, it seems that they don't want to be responsible for their kids, and because of it, the kids end up suffering. It is heartbreaking, some of the stuff I have heard about, and it is unfathomable to think that a parent couldn't even care for their very own children!
Dr. Stryker gives me a hug as we watch the police come into the room and start asking Angela Dawes questions; and shortly thereafter, they handcuff her and take her out of the room. Angela is still crying, and she is trying to get away, but she can't; and soon, she is screaming hysterically. I then start to cry all the harder, and I wonder why this world has gotten so crazy and out of control. I then think of my own family, and all of a sudden, I can't wait for my day to be over, so I can return to the love and sanctity of my husband and children.

I know how it feels to lose a child...but thank God for the time I had to spend with her...a short 6 years...but He needed her and she had to go first to open heavens doors for me!!
I do not understand why...but soon I will get the answer to it!!
