A story about a little boy who is living with muscular dystrophy. (He is the Poster Child for the Middle Tennessee Chapter of the Muscular Dystrophy Association.)
Tadd Foster Kinset is only five years old, and he is still too young to understand that he has a serious disease that is affecting his ability to walk well. He only knows that he walks with metal braces on his legs, and that he uses crutches, or, for longer distances, a wheelchair; and he knows that his legs don't work as well as other little boys his age; he doesn't know that he has a disease called muscular dystrophy and that it will probably kill him by the time he is in his 20's--or maybe even sooner than that.
Tadd is a very handsome young man, thin and rather short for his age, with wide, grey eyes and wavy brownish-red hair; and he wears leg braces on his legs and walks with the help of forearm crutches. He is the youngest child of Theresa and LaRue Kinset, and he has two older brothers, Todd (7) and Ryan (13), as well as two older sisters, Rheanne (9) and Hannah (11). He also has a dog, "Sport", a Rottweiler, which serves as his "helper" when he goes out to play or to school.
Tadd is rather boisterous and outgoing in nature; and one can hardly get a word in edgewise because he loves to talk; and if you give him a chance, he just may talk your ear off. He loves to race around in his wheelchair, which is harvest orange in color; and he loves to bowl at the bowling alley because they have a special ramp he can roll up to in his wheelchair and put the ball on the ramp and let it fly down the lane; and he usually gets strikes or spares. He is a very good little bowler, and he really enjoys himself. He also loves football (his favorite team is the Tennessee Titans), and he loves to sing.
Tadd has only been the Poster Child for the Muscular Dystrophy Association since the beginning of the year, replacing Johnathon ("Johnny") Sandusky, now 10 1/2, and he has already met many of the country music greats, including Ray Price, Loretta Lynn, and Garth Brooks; and he has also met Alan Jackson. He has also met Ed McMahon and Jerry Lewis in person, as has his entire family.
Tadd is indeed a special little boy with a problem that is serious, and he enjoys the attention he has gotten so far since his being chosen the 2003 Poster Child for the MDA.
