M'buti worries about her oldest son, Jubaki, and what the future will hold for him and her other two children, Eshe and Kibaraki, who are nearly one-year-old twins.
Son, as I watch you sleeping, I can't help but wonder just what the future will hold for you and your little twin brother and sister, Kibarake and Eshe.
The world has become such an evil and hate-filled place; and I wonder if you will ever truly be safe from the threat of terrorism or crime that is forever rampant on the streets here in America. I wonder if you will be kidnapped, and I wonder if you will be exposed to pornography. There are so many perverts out there, just waiting to prey on innocent children, and I can't help but fear for your safety and well being.
I wonder if America will be subjected to another terrorist attack as devastating as the one two years ago on September 11, 2001. So many innocent people died at the hands of fanatical madmen who hate us and want nothing more than to destroy our nation and all we hold dear. Because of the terror attacks on September 11, 2001, my friend is dead, and nothing I can do will ever bring her back, and the Pentagon was damaged; and the Twin Towers burst into flames and then fell into twin piles of rubble, killing thousands who were still inside the buildings when they fell. I don't know what I would do if we were attacked again; once was more than enough, and because of it, America was forever changed. Not just America, but the whole WORLD, really!
We are also at war with an unseen enemy, and we have absolutely no idea what they will do; and because of it, our military men and women are overseas fighting so we can remain free and safe. Too many of our men and women have already died since the war with Iraq ended earlier this year, and each day brings more bad news to the homefront regarding our military.
The economy has suffered because of the war and other factors, and many good people are out of work. They are struggling to keep themselves fed or clothed, and many are in dire need of financial help and stability. I wonder if there will be any jobs left by the time you get to be a grown man, and it worries me so much to think what the future may hold for you and your little brother and sister.
I also can't help but wondering about these parents who neglect or abuse their kids; and too many innocent little ones have suffered irreparable damage at the hands of their parents. Too many have died out of carelessness or stupidity, and if anything should ever happen to you all, I don't know what I would do; I would probably go mad with grief! Whatever happened to discipline or caring for our children? Our children are our future; they deserve BETTER! Even our animals live better than our children, and that is truly appalling!
Another thing that worries me is the ever skyrocketing cost of education or medical care. It is getting so bad it is as though they are catering to the rich; and to hell with the middle class or lower class! It is no wonder there are so many uninsured people; they can't afford to get sick! I know I can't! I've already been sick enough as it is, and I am so sick of doctors, hospitals, or tests I can just SCREAM!! And college costs are going up; it is getting harder and harder for students to find a school they can afford, and it is getting harder to get grants so they CAN go to college and get a degree, let alone, a better-paying job!
Well, dear Love, I must go; I just wanted to let you know that I worry about you, and I hope the future holds much in the way of promise and hope for you and your little brother and sister! You deserve the best in life, and you deserve to be happy and free from worry!
I love you with all my heart and soul, and I am so happy that you are my little boy! You have brought me much in the way of joy, and I thank God each and every day for you! You truly are a little Miracle, and I am so blessed to be your Mama!
It is every mother's nightmare. The knowledge that we can't protect them forever. And all we can do is pray and hope our prayers are heard. Keep writing.
Karen this was a wonderful letter from Mother to Son,m keep em coming...
God Bless

Another gem, Karen; I worry about all of these things for my own children; you express it well and again pack it all into a nice length for a guilt-free "busy weekend" read. ;)
m'buti seems like she is a strong, caring mama...if she trusts in God, and trains a child in the way he should go, jubaki and eshe and kibaraki should not sway from her lessons
well written, heartwarming (and heartbreaking) write
