A young preteenaged girl writes about what is special about herself, and is discovering more and more about herself each and every day.
I am pretty special, you know that?
No, I am NOT bragging, but I HAVE had a very interesting life thus far. (And I am only 10 1/2 years old, just a kid!)
Everyone is special in his or her own way, but it has taken me almost 11 years to finally accept myself and realize that even though I am disabled, I am my own person, and there is really nothing that can be done to change my disabilities; and I also have to learn to accept them and go on with my life and enjoy it to the best of my ability.
I often wish I didn't have to live with pain each and every day, but I still have it a lot better than a lot of people do. At least I have my mind and my senses intact, and at least I can still get around FAIRLY well! I also wish I didn't have allergies, but they are getting better, and I don't have problems with my asthma NEARLY as much as I used to. (I DID have an attack about two weeks ago that put me into the hospital for just overnight; but I haven't had any more problems with my breathing since getting out of the hospital. And besides, it WAS my fault: I knew there was a lot of extra pollen in the air that day, but I didn't use my inhaler as much as I was supposed to, and I had to suffer the consequences of my actions.)
People have told me that I am a fairly complex person. There are times where I am really sweet and loving, and the next minute, I am something to be reckoned with, with a personality that matches a rabid bear..or the Grinch. I can get pretty temperamental at times, and believe you me, you DON'T want to be around me when I get into one of my "grinchy" moods! LOL
There are also times where I can be pretty adult about things (such as the times when I am in the hospital; being in the hospital still does upset me, but I am NOT bummed out TOO much about it; the ONLY thing that really bothers me any more is if they have to do the stupid blood sticks on me to see how the oxygen levels in my blood are doing!), but at other times, I am more like the kid I am. I still love to play and have fun, and nothing pleases me more than to be hanging out with my friends or acting goofy at times! Or doing something like drinking up all the rootbeer (for some weird reason, I can NEVER get enough of that delicious rootbeer; but then I am burping my head off afterwards! LOL)!
Several things that really bother me include the times when my mommy overprotects me, especially if I am sick. She has a right to worry, as I am her kid, and she is my mom, but she goes overboard at times, and there are times when I don't need her hovering over me like a mother hen; there are times where I want to be alone and have my space! Also, mommy has other kids in the family besides me, and I think she should be paying attention to THEM, not just ME! It isn't fair to the other kids, and it really burns me up! And the thing is, they are sicker than ME! Like my brother, Johnny, who so happens to be DYING! :(
Another thing that bothers me is being short for my age. I am nearly 11 now, but I look more like a second- to third- grader than a fifth grader, and it gets really embarrassing at times, especially when a kid tells me that the third grade classroom is across the hall! Oh, that REALLY makes me MAD!
I may be little, and I may be disabled, but PLEASE treat me like I am 10 1/2, NOT like a little KID! I hate it when people are being condescending towards me! I am NOT stupid, and I KNOW how people treat me, and when they don't treat me right, I have a RIGHT to be MAD!
