The Sandusky family heads on back to the state fair for a day of fun and frolic. Tonight they will cap off a fun-filled day with a Loretta Lynn concert.
Guess where we are today...
This is Louisiana Sandusky writing on my laptop; and today finds us at the Tennessee State Fair. We are here because the kids wanted to come back and ride the rides, and we are also here because we are seeing Loretta Lynn in concert at the main stage tonight; she is today's star attraction at the fair.
We came to the fair about nine; we've been here nearly three hours. The kids are off riding the rides, and Bill, Johnny, Jodie, and myself, are sitting on one of the benches and enjoying the sight of the people strolling by. We will expect the kids to be back between twelve and twelve thirty; we will probably then eat lunch and then catch one of the shows. They are going to have a big cat demonstration, and I am sure Johnny will be interested in that. So will Ronee'; they love animals of all sorts (except for reptiles, bugs, or spiders; those they can do without, they so often say!). They especially love the cats, in particular, the cheetahs.
We will then see a troupe of Maasai dancers, who are putting on a show of their music and dancing; that sounds quite interesting; we must check that out!
At twelve, right on the dot, the kids (Michael, Ronee', Stephanie, Barbara, Gemini, and Starlight) came to the lunch corral; their faces were pink from excitement, and their hair was a mess from blowing around while riding the rides: they looked like ragamuffins. Ronee' said she rode some more of the big rides, and she didn't lose her purse (or her breakfast, which is always a good thing!); and she had a ball on the rides. She said she held on tight and screwed her eyes tightly shut when the ride got to be too scary for her.
We got lunch (today, hamburgers, fries, and large Cokes), and as we ate, Bill laid out the game plan. He told the kids we were going to see several of the shows before they went back to riding the rides; and that they would have plenty of time to ride the rides once the shows were over. We told them that we were going to see Maasai dancers and singers from Kenya, and then after that, a big cat show featuring lions, cheetahs, and leopards; and that seemed to pique their interest. After the shows, then they could go back on the rides until 6, when we would then head to the main stage area for the concert.
~LATER~
We just got through with the big cats show; and the kids were fascinated at seeing the lions, leopards, and cheetahs; and several of the kids got to see the cheetahs up close and even got to pet them (Johnny, Ronee', and Barbara). Ronee' even went as far as kissing the cheetah on the nose, which got a laugh out of all of us. We also saw the Maasai dancers, and Johnny kept saying that M'buti, our friend from Kenya, should see them, as they may remind her of her home back in Kenya. She would really like that, he said. The Maasai dancers even got Barbara, Gemini, and Stephanie into the act; and they got to try to do the adumu ("jump dance"). They had fun trying to jump as high as the Maasai dancers, and we all got a big laugh at their attempts. We then met the troupe, and they were most inpressed, especially when we told them about M'buti. "We must meet this M'buti friend of yours," they kept saying, "Are they at the fair?" (We had no idea whether they were at the fair or not.)
The kids are now back on the midway, again testing their youthful mettle on the rides; and Bill and I are sitting on benches while Johnny and Jodie sit in their wheelchairs, taking a well-deserved nap; they are tired, and they are resting up for tonight, when we will then see Loretta Lynn.
Good part of the story. Oh I love watching big tigers and lions too. Guess I'm still a kid inside. Okay, I'm looking foward to hear about Loreeta Lynn. You lucky you!
Speaking of cats karen, did you see where the big tiger maulded his trainer. You got to be crazy to be messing around with big cats, especially if they're not in their cage. Good story. hugguhs G
