Gisela continues the story of Matica and Talon, ever faithful to her style and message in this, the third installment in her Talon series. So far, we have been with Matica as she rescued a condor egg from poachers, raising the condor chick she names Talon, while his parents Tamo and Tima watch in approval, and this is just in the first book. The second book sees dreams come to life as the relationship and understanding between Matica and Talon grows ever deeper. In Flight for Life, we follow the unlikely duo as poachers return and Matica continues to struggle with her self-esteem due to her disability. Her continuing acceptance from the South American Indians in the surrounding villages and cities gives her pride and reason to hold her head high, however, as they stand in awe of her relationship with the endangered condors. Some may view it as far stretched; but the beauty of hope and positivity is what makes this such a wonderful series. It is a perfect way to teach children and young adults that no matter how different we are, we can all make a difference and that whatever life throws at us, we should never let it get us down but rather take it in stride and keep our heads held high, just like Matica.


Talon flies yet again...better than ever by David Broughton
This third book in the series is the culmination of the story started in the first book. A must read if you've read the other two. If not, I recommend you get all three at one time, that way you can keep right on flying along. The writing is great, the story imaginative, and rather different, but with a familiar feel. By all means get this book, and the other two as well. I prefer the Ebook format, but it's available in both Ebook and print versions for those that still like the sensory connection a real book gives you.


The adventure continues with the beautiful Picturesque descriptive nature
On the wing is the second book of the Talon series. In the previous book, we learn that Matica suffers from an illness that prevents her from growing. Her physical form is about the size of a two-year-old, but mentally she is 9. Her parents move from Australia to Peru where this little girl has to face discrimination and abuse from the Peruvian Indians. They see her as evil and refuse to have her near the other children.

Things have changed after the birds become Matica’s wings. People in the village are more receptive towards her, and even her parents are becoming acceptable towards the situation. The adventure continues with the beautiful picturesque descriptive nature of the author’s writing, producing this wonderful book of self-discovery and love for animals. This fantasy world has nothing short of being an incredible tale of a little girl and her journey with these birds.

I thoroughly enjoyed Matica growing and reading about her encounters with the people of the village. I believe the character development is spot on with this tale and that makes this story very special to read. These birds really change her life, and it is lovely to see the effect of how it influences Matica’s confidence and belief in herself.

I recommend this book to young adult readers, bird lovers and fantasy fans.
