I walked slowly out to my old Ford, chilled by the cool February breeze. I sat behind the wheel for a few minutes, studying the pictures Frank had given me. The three of us looked a bit younger in the first one. My hair was lighter then and there was more of it.
It seemed odd to me that someone had dropped the letter and photo into Frank’s mailbox. Perhaps they thought they were doing Marty a favor by keeping his location a secret. It could have been someone who’d left town with him, or an old friend he happened to run into. He makes friends easily. Perhaps it was a stranger he’d met whose next stop was San Diego. If I had any idea who that person might be, I could coax or choke his whereabouts out of them. As it stood, the photo was my only clue.
