ACT 2 SCENE 1
[The accused SON OF MAN stands before the court of ARCHBISHOP MAKARIOS, the head of the officiating Disciplinary Priestly Dynasty]
“…ARCHBISHOP MAKARIOS: Does our Law judge any man before he is heard and determine whatever he has done?
FATHER NUMANTILLUS: With respect to justice, he is innocent until proven guilty.
ARCHBISHOP MAKARIOS: What then are the changes brought against him?
BISHOP TRANQUILI: Your Lordship, I am afraid that some of his records disappeared without trail from our files. But thank heaven, we’ve logged onto the website and came up with dossiers filthy enough to blind our innocent eyes and deafen our ears. Your Lordship, as we all know, this fellow is seeking to establish a secret society with the purpose of mobilising and setting up a new kingdom. He’s the very villain of instability and artist of insurrection, setting up himself as the king of Nations in opposition to Baba Africa, the most Illustrious one and only. A Scandal which has found too many critics and has been severely condemned then we would have even wished.
FATHER SCRUPLIO: And on our part, we hereby reasonably make a recognizable mention of him as a transgressor against traditions of Africa. A villain, who practices magic, scorches the works and words of the wise leading the people astray by claiming that he has come to add connotations and denotations to the law.
FATHER NUMANTILLUS: His website also pointed out crime against religion. In his curriculum vitae he claims to be the Anointed and through his doctrines he teaches that he is the anticipated Emperor, the one and only Deliverer of Africa and thus being a blasphemer, addresses himself in slanderous language which requires that he needs probing, and like a tongue carefully examining a sore tooth, ascertain his guilt.
ARCHBISHOP MAKARIOS: Proceed then
FATHER SCRUPLIO: The Priestly Executive Council had resolved that all men who preach must show unswerving loyalty to the Elders and The Most High Bishop. In my opinion, his Word of Truth Ministries has failed in that test. We have reliable information that they have thrown to the wind the law. [to SON OF MAN] You don’t observe the ceremonial washing, do you? And why do your associates transgress these traditions of the Elders?
BISHOP TRANQUILI: Son of Man, do you deny before these Elders that there is an implicitly illicit bond of union between you and your followers? Or that you recruited them secretly in the dark to conceal your designs?
