WHY ARE THERE RAINBOWS
It was from the beach on the eastern coast of Togetherland, at a place called Magenta that young Joe found a very perplexing question in his head.
It was a question that would not go away, you see as he looked out across The Barmy Ocean he could see a huge rainbow. It's beginning appeared from a great distance, way out at sea, yet it's end was inland, perhaps in the vicinity of Bolooba.
Joe looked hard and long at the rainbow, wanted to know why it was there and why it went from that end to another end, where did it come from and where was it going.
He watched for a long time, none of his questions had answers, wich was sad because he loved asking questions and usually found answers, so he was pleased when Princess Nimsi appeared not far away. He walked over to her and asked her, 'Please Princess will you answer my questions, I cannot find the answers?' Princess Nimsi smiled replying, 'Of course I will, what are they?'
Joe pointed across The Barmy Ocean saying, 'Look there is a rainbow, I want to know, why is it there, why it goes from way out there to somewhere inland, and where does it come from, where is it going?'
Princess Nimsi smiled at him then started to tell him some things about rainbows. Joe sat down on the grass as he listened.
She sat down also and began to explain. 'Rainbows appear because there is so much sadness in the world that lies across The Barmy Sea. So many tears are shed across the water in a place called The Main Land, they are the tears of all the sad people, the sad children, their tears catch the sunlight and create a huge rainbow. The rainbow their tears create is a way out, like a huge bridge of dreams from their sadness to here, Togetherland. Sometimes those that shed tears find that rainbow and stand in it, because it begins around their tears. When they do it lets them walk across that bridge. They walk up one side and slide down the other, sometimes they arrive here with a loud Plop, which is how Fwendy arrived, she had a sad life and arrived across a rainbow bridge.'
Joe was captured by her words and looked out across that rainbow with much imagination.
Yet with his imagination came more questions, so he asked Princess Nimsi, 'So why are there coloured strips in the rainbow? What are they?'
Princess Nimsi laughed saying to Joe, 'You ask very good questions Joe, I will try to explain.'
She pauses as she looks at the rainbow then replies, 'Each of the colours are emotions, they are red which is fear, orange which is loss, yellow sadness, green which is pain, blue which is loneliness, indigo which is fear, violet which is escape. They are the sadness that some have. When they shed a tear the sunlight makes a rainbow with all of the tears that are shed, this may let some escape from their sadness. They can escape across a rainbow bridge.'
Joe is enthralled by her words then asks her, 'Do you think anyone has arrived today across the bridge?'
Princess Nimsi tells Joe, 'Sometimes they come just for a day, they find what they were looking for and return happy. Sometimes happy is here, like us and we stay in Togetherland, happy.' She grabs Joe's hand and invites him, 'How about we find the end of the rainbow?'
Joe is thrilled and they walk off in search of that end of their rainbow, heading towards the Bolooba Hills.
