Threatened with kidnapping for political and religious issues, a young woman shows her bodyguard about Faith Under Fire
Deborah Benjamin, a Messianic Jew, is threatened for political reasons. Yet, once she meets her bodyguard, she finds herself subject not only to political attentions, but also those of the heart. Raül Santos has a difficult time understanding Deborah's faith. Can he relinquish control of her safety to God? The election is fast approaching and he will have to commit his faith, one way or the other.

“Deborah?”
She didn’t want to look his way, but Santos’ baritone was a voice she was, by now, accustomed to heeding. Maybe a yard away, he was leaning against the bronze sundial, one thumb crooked in a pocket of his dark slacks. For once, he wasn’t amused or up to something. On the contrary, his alert brown eyes were full of compassion, which she avoided by averting her gaze to the stepping stone under her feet. I must be at a low ebb, she told herself as tears welled up, completely against her will and better judgment.
She heard him exhale, quietly but harshly, before he stepped next to her and the betraying tears spilled over. Santos wiped one away with a caressing touch, and she shut her eyes against the sudden surge of feeling that moved through her chest like a hot ocean wave. “Ah, cara mía, don’t cry.” The low, tender endearment was a completely unanticipated reminder of whatever connection had been forging itself between the two of them lately. She blinked the tears away to see his face.

Exciting read! Starting off with a car-bomb is a sure way to get attention. lol Though the story spans a lot longer than most of the market romances, Sandy handles the passage of time pretty well. Good book.
