When we arrived at the house, all the women immediately escourted me to the back bedroom. Located in the bedroom was a gleaming whie marble baathroom with a large shower. Although the shower was smooth sided with a high water faucet and plenty of hot water, I was unprepared both emotionally and physically for the ritual that followed. One of the women gestured for me to get into the shower and handed me a safety razor and a simple bar of soap. A group of six of the women wanted to supervise my shower and make sure that all of my pubic hair was shaved off. They followed me into the bathroom, all dressed up in their finest wedding clothes.
