Detective Mark Nosack picks up a cold case murder and starts a new investigation. He discovers a magical piece of evidence that eventually leads to the murderer.
On the same night that author Mark Nosack graduated from the police academy in 1979, Marilyn Greyeyes left a party and dissappeared. Just days later, two little girls discovered her nude and horribly mutilated body on a barren hilltop. The murder investigation went on for months but was finally closed due to lack of evidence.
In 1984, young detective Mark Nosack picks up the cold case and starts a new investigation. Among the evidence, he discovers a small piece of metal that the original investigators couldn't identify. Nosack realizes the item is a gun's trigger guard, and he begins searching for the matching gun.
In a bizarre twist of events, Detective Nosack finds the gun, and it eventually leads to Marilyn Greyeyes' murderer. But Nosack soon discovers that it takes more than a murder weapon to put a killer behind bars.
Excerpt
“I don’t want to be part of any of this,” whined Blondie as he stood next to Business.
It took no time for Driver to finish his business. “No free rides, bitch.” He said as he spat on her back and stood up adjusting his pants.
“I’m not part of this.” Blondie turned and started walking west toward lights.
Driver zipped his pants and turned and looked at Blondie walking away. “Where you going, fag.”
“I can’t be part of this. I know her.” Blondie said over his shoulder as he continued to walk.
“Fuck you, you are part of this.” Driver said as she started walking in Blondie’s direction. “I got you your blow. I hooked you up. You’re part of everything we do tonight. You want to find your own way home? You want to walk away like you had nothing to do with this? Expect the cops to be waiting for you at your front door.” Driver said with fire in his eyes.
Blondie started walking faster. Driver yelled for him to stop. When he didn’t, Driver started running after Blondie. Blondie heard Driver’s footstep closing in. He started to run, but Driver was already on top of him. Driver tackled Blondie. The fall was not nearly as bad as the landing. They landed real hard with Driver crushing the air out of Blondie. Driver turned Blondie over onto his back and quickly slapped him hard twice across the face.
Business approached the two and stopped a few feet away. Driver ignored him.
“You know why your part of this? You stood there like the piece of shit you are and watched. If you was a man and didn’t like what was happening you shoulda tried to do something. But no, you just stood there and watched. Chances are you started to get a hard-on, not because of what I did to her, but because you wished it was you I was doing up the ass.” Driver said as he glared into the eyes of Blondie.
Blondie was almost in tears. He’d never been so afraid in his entire life. “Just let me go. I won’t tell anyone, I promise.”
“Oh, I’ll let you go alright. But I’m not worried about you telling anyone. The bitch knows who you two are. She don’t know me. Whatever I did, you two are accessories because you losers don’t have a spine. It’s you two who should be worried.” Driver said as he turned and looked into the eyes of Business.
