Excerpt
Well, the wind starting howling and blowing and soon reached hurricane force. Klutz, my best friend, and I decided no hurricane or wind was going to scare us. Boy, were we wrong. Suddenly a gust of wind came and picked me up and I was off on a wild ride. I grabbed a palm tree as I went by but couldn’t hold on. I was on a rollercoaster ride to end all rides. Suddenly the wind took a breath and I was dumped into a swamp. I was scared. There wasn’t a friendly eye in the place.
The hurricane was over and I hadn’t been eaten by the critters in the swamp, thank goodness. I shook my aching head and body. My GPS, sense of direction, must have short- circuited from my wild ride. I couldn’t tell which way to go. I couldn’t find Homosassa. I’ve been lost and looking for it or a new home ever since.
How I ended up on the Rainbow River was a fortunate accident. You see, just before Christmas a few weeks ago, I came in for a landing and miscalculated. I landed on the head of an alligator, Louie I came to find out. I’m lucky he didn’t eat me right then and there. I sure made him mad and gave him a headache.
