It's Megan and Seth's big night, graduation from high school. As Seth drives Megan home from a graduation party, bright lights rush up behind them, a hard bump hits the rear of the car and they see a tree rushing to meet them. Seth is in critical condition and Megan is missing. Alicia must use her special powers to assist the police find Megan before it's too late.
Excerpt
Chapter 2
The morning passed quickly. I met Jan and Amy downtown for lunch and some shopping.
We ate at the Pink Flamingo. As we waited for lunch, I said, “Why so quiet Jan? You haven’t said ten words since we got here. Is there a problem with the party?”
“Sorry. There’s no real problem, but the Goth group is threatening to show up and disrupt the party. Dad says just let them try. He said he’d call the police if they show up. That’s the last thing I need. Other than that, everything is good.”
“I got a weird call on my cell this morning,” Amy said. “The caller
spoke in a whisper and said if I was smart I’d stay home tonight.”
“That is weird. I got a similar call. Someone said stay home and stay safe. I talked to Seth and he got the same one. He thinks it’s someone upset because he got the trophy and scholarship to State for football. It’s kinda scary. Did you tell your parents, Amy?”
“Are you kidding? I don’t want to take a chance they won’t let me go to the party. I did tell Joe. He says not to worry; it’s just someone trying to act tough.”
“Me either. Seth said he just thinks it’s someone trying to make trouble and spoil the party. I hope that’s all it is.”
We shopped for an hour and Jan picked up extra snacks for the party. I stopped at the drugstore before going home to pick up some nail polish and new lipstick.
Chapter 3
“Megan, Seth is here. Do you have everything you need for tonight?” Dad called up the stairs.
I rushed downstairs with my cap and gown on a hanger.
“You look great,” Seth whistled.
“You don’t look too bad yourself,” I laughed.
“Drive careful. We’ll see you at school,” Mom cautioned.
As we paraded into the auditorium to “Pomp and Circumstance,” I spied Mom, Dad and Buster. They waved and I winked back.
Awards were presented, scholarships announced and diplomas put in our hands. It was over. We tossed our caps in the air. The first night of our future was about to begin.
A reception is being held in the cafeteria before we go to the dance in the gym. All our families and friends are invited.
“We’ll see you at home, no later than 1:00am. Have fun and behave yourself,” Mom and Dad said before they left.
If we had only known, a lot of worry and grief could have been avoided. No one can see the future.
Chapter 4
We had a great time at the school dance. Of course, everyone separated into their own little group of friends. About 10:30pm, the party broke up and everyone headed to other parties. We wished each other luck and said we’d stay in touch.
As Seth and I were getting in his car, we shouted to Jan and Jacob. “We’ll be right behind you. See you in a few minutes.”
“Will you stop and pick up some extra chips? I forgot them when we were out earlier,” Jan yelled back.
“Sure. We drive by the grocery on the way,” Seth responded.
While Seth parked out front of the grocery, I ran in and bought two large bags of chips. In no time at all, we were on our way.
“Ready or not, here we are, chips in hand. Let the party begin,” we called as we walked in the door.
The party had already started. About twenty of Jan’s closest friends were here. Her parents had gone all out with refreshments and snacks. They had arranged for a disc jockey and he was out by the pool doing his thing.
Seth and I were dancing poolside when we got unexpected visitors. Good
things come in pairs they say. Apparently, bad things do also.
From one side of the backyard, several ruffians, members of the “Rebelion” Group, so they call themselves, jumped over the fence. Members of the Goth group walked through the gate from the driveway about the same time. The next thing we knew, punches were being thrown.
Police sirens sounded in the distance. By the time patrol cars pulled in front of the house, the party crashers had scattered and fled.
That put a damper on the party and it broke up a few minutes later, about midnight. I felt sorry that Jan’s party had been spoiled.
