Stephen Gotlar, a first grade-building engineer and security strategist, is summoned by the American authorities to build a wall around a city after a natural disaster and a failed experiment. But when the United States government gives the green light to go ahead and construct twenty Detached Occidental Kingdoms (DOK cities) distributed all over Northern and Central America, it is already too late. His life takes the turn with the apparition of Bernard Rand; a lanky military fed who comes knocking at his front door with orders to go with him to the construction site. Ex police officer, Stephen Gotlar tears himself away from his wife for the first time in their married life to travel with Bernard to begin the DOK wall.
