Noted photojournalist and Mother of the Faison Quay's son's fiancee, goes missing.
Paris Police Inspector Gilbert Beaubien’s frustrated efforts to solve the murder of an odious, yet famous, Louvre art restorer, is inextricably intertwined with world-renown, multi-billionaire, Toronto-based, Faison Quay VI, and his quest to locate the missing award-winning photojournalist, Passion Pomeroy, mother of Faison’s son’s fiancée.
Utilizing his vast wealth of contacts and money, Faison travels across Europe in his attempt to unravel the deepening mystery of Passion’s disappearance and an increasing number of seemingly unrelated murders.
Excerpt
Fumbling with his large metal ring of assorted original keys that had been handed down from each of the preceding deed-holders, Hébèrt tried several before he found the one that finally turned in the lock. It was only one or two seconds after he pushed the door opened before he screamed, “Jesus, Mary and Joseph. Oh my god, I think I’m going to faint,” as he reeled back into the hallway, nearly ramming Madame Fortin’s ignited Gauloises up her right nostril.
Choking, Mariel regained her stance, pushed past Hébèrt without taking time to ask what he’d discovered, impatiently barged into the room, took one quick glance and proceeded to vomit. Sprawled across the broken glass-topped coffee table, in a contorted and grotesque fashion, lay Monsieur Croustal, eyes still open but definitely dead. In fact, dead long enough for the extreme heat and time to have caused extensive deterioration. When she could gain a modicum of composure, Mariel staggered back into the hall, wiped the slobber dripping from her mouth with the back side of her left arm, and ordered, “Call the flics you stupid bastard, we sure as hell aren’t going back in there.”
With that, the two of them, still gagging, returned to Mariel’s apartment and Hébèrt, with great difficulty, picked up the telephone and called the police.
