With money no object, Règinè finds herself travelling the world in order to satisfy her employer’s insistence that he will put an end to the murder of millionaires at his Hotels who Check In / Check Out.

Three deaths, of very prominent guests, at three different six-star Key Hotels, over the preceding four weeks, had been enough to set the stomach of David Granpré churning; the news, in the morning’s reports, of Jedediah Oakes, the world-renown wine authority and wine importer, having died the day before, while a guest at the Key Hotel Buenos Aires, brought him to the point of nausea.

“Well, Règinè, what do you have for us; have you even had time to digest all of the reports?”
“All but the one that just arrived before I called today,” she clarified. “Two of the three I have read leave more questions than answers; and, even the third one, which is the one from Bangkok; I am not fully satisfied with the conclusions.”
Handing the envelope to David, she continued, “I’ll hold off saying anything more until you three have read them.”
David immediately withdrew the sheaf of paper, separated them by each case and then began to hand them to Faison. “Just give me the first one, David; and then hand me each one as you finish and I’ll pass mine on to Stark. That way we’ll save time.”
“In that case, Ms. Ouellette, you’ll have time to review the one from Buenos Aires, while we are reviewing the others,” David suggested as he handed the appropriate files to Règinè.
For the next ten minutes, there was silence while the four familiarised themselves with the various cases; finally, Faison lightly cleared his throat, causing the others to lower the reports, and he began, “Is it just me or do any of you find it concerning that in three of the four cases no toxicology reports were ordered because the attending Medical Examiners declared ‘death by natural cause’; and, in the other instance, without a comprehensive toxicology report having yet being returned, again, a final conclusion of ‘death by natural cause’ has already been pronounced. Given that each death, in my opinion, was, at a minimum, paradoxical; at a maximum, fraught with unlikelihood…..in three if not all four deaths, tox reports would go a long way in assuaging any concerns of foul play I presently harbour.”
