"Call an ambulance Richard!"
Maggie was still rubbing Sarah's head and soothingly talking to her to try to keep her awake.
Richard ran out of the room to the phone.
It was only a matter of minutes before the ambulance arrived.
He led them to Sarah's room where they picked her up and placed her on a gurney.
"Richard, I'm going with her, you get the boys off to school...and then come to the hospital."
Maggie was frantically searching for her purse.
She would have to eat and maybe even stay in a motel by the hospital.
"Mom..." Sarah said weakly.
Maggie rushed to the bed and leaned down so she could hear.
"I'm sorry Mommy...I'm so sorry."
Sarah's eye's were closing as they rushed her out of the house.
Maggie began to cry.
It seemed like this is all she did anymore. Cry.
She followed the ambulance, staying as close to it as she could.
She couldn't be separated from them.
Maggie sat in the waiting room and twisted her hands until Richard arrived.
"What took you so long!"
Maggie was frustrated and worried and felt abandoned the 10 minutes she had waited alone.
"Maggie, calm down...she's done this before...God help us, she'll do it again and again!"
Richard was worried also, but his worry came out like anger, though he was scared to death
of losing his only daughter this time, after so many attempts she'd made.
Maggie began to cry, again, and Richard held her close to him.
"Have they said anything yet?
His voice was cracking and Maggie knew he was close to tears himself.
"No, they haven't told me anything...I've just been waiting."
Richard let go of her long enough to go to the emergency room window.
"I need to find out about my daughter Sarah, they just brought her in."
The old woman behind the desk, behind the window, not 6 foot from his daughter, looked at
him as though he had asked for blood.
"Sir, you'll have to wait for the doctor, if you'll just be seated please."
Richard studied her face for a moment .
He could tell she had no kids of her own and knew because of this, she could not understand his urgency.
He turned as if he'd been scolded and walked back to where Maggie sat, hands holding her head.
"Sweetie, we have to just wait."
